I don't put much stock into these things either as fact or consequence. How do we know that's true coming from someone who is rarely on here?
Even if it is, so what? It's been pretty clear that Kearney's sympathies have been with U-M for ages yet something gave his pause in committing. So, does it mean he's a lock to choose UM over MSU? No. Does that mean I wouldn't welcome him if Izzo wants him? No.
He's a HS kid, after all. Big, big grain of salt.

It seems you can probably throw this out the window.

16. Dwaun Anderson is a 6'3 kid from Sutton's Bay HS who didn't get as much publicity as some other high profile wings from Michigan but he is the best athlete of his talented in-state peers and has a good three point shot already as well. He led Parallel 45's outstanding 2010 squad last summer and had a few tournaments with Team New Jersey in July. Central Michigan and Dayton had been on him early but he is also being recruited by Michigan, Wisconsin, and Michigan State. In October he was the star of the loaded Styles 3 Elite Showcase in Midland, Michigan and appears to be a prospect exploding onto the scene.
17. Brandon Kearney is a 6'4 wing from Detroit Southeastern who is expected to announce for Michigan State on November 3rd. He also has offers from Ohio State (the darkhorse), Michigan, Florida, and others but has been spotted in green a lot the last few weeks. He was excellent for Team Detroit last summer. Photo above is Kearney from Detroit FP picture.
19. Anton Grady is a kid I admit I didn't know anything about until I stumbled across him at an AAU event. He's a high major athlete from the Cleveland area with incredible length on the wing for the NEO-Ballers. More accurately I should say I stumbled across a Michigan State assistant at an AAU event this summer. The crowds were all watching Teague/Marrero/Hopkins and I went around to some of the back courts to get some pictures and almost fell across a MSU assistant who was the only coach watching the game. It was one of those Yellowstone moments where you see a car pulled to the side of the road and you know they are watching some bear or moose so you pull over too and Grady was a stunner.
PLP and McCune on the list also

10. Jeremiah Davis is a 6'3 combo guard from Muncie, Indiana. He has been a big name in recruiting circles since Billy Gillespie, Bruce Pearl, and Tom Crean offered him over a year ago. Davis is a very intelligent well spoken kid that fans will find easy to like. However, the knock on him was a lot like the knock on Marques Teague. They were both obviously athletically gifted but they didn't seem to have the intangibles that makes their teams successful as freshmen. I saw that in May when Davis was extremely impressive at all facets of the game except knowing when to shoot and when to look to get his teammates in rhythm. Then in July Davis looked a lot more comfortable and within himself. I need to see more, but Davis appears to have answered his questions. Michigan State and Indiana are strong with him right now.

2011 Class
D. Anderson sounds like a very under the radar kid who may quickly become an above the radar player. Seems like he could be a player we want to make a big push for. Also, I haven't heard a lot about Amir Williams, but I think he is someone we should also make a push for, especially after losing Price to Louisville.

Obviously it would be nice to get Payne but how would you feel about this incoming class and roster in 2011?
2011 | Russell Byrd | Jeremiah Davis | Tommy McCune | Keith Appling | Brandan Kearney | Delvon Roe | Dwuan Anderson | Korie Lucious | Derrick Nix | Alex Gauna | Garrick Sherman | Draymond Green | Austin Thornton |

In 2011 though? Davis will be gone and Henson probably will as well.

Adding a Big Guy
I would like to add a big guy, maybe Amir Williams.
Four of these five would be great: J. Davis, A. Williams, Kearney, Lucas-Perry, D. Anderson.
I think the big question for the upcoming season is replacing Suton.

If Payne passes, and Thornton's scholarship is still conditional, why not take 5 in 2011, and 3 in 2012? I like your four but toss in Sampson, Williams, or Grady. You can focus on bigs and a PG in 2012.

I just have a feeling that Izzo is going to put Thornton on scholarship by the time he's a senior.

That certainly possible, but the recruitment of Payne itself suggests he doesn't plan on doing it for his junior year. Payne would take the 13th scholarship. And no, anticipating some people's objection, I don't think Izzo is recruiting Payne assuming someone is going to leave early.

Evaluation / Notes On the Trail / Features
Scouts Grade
88
Considering: No schools at this time.
Evaluation
May, 2009: Gibson has tremendous upside. He is long and athletic and runs the floor on a regular basis. He is aggressive and does a great job rebounding on both ends of the floor. Gibson has good hands and can rebound in and out of his area. At this point all his offense is in the lane from power drop steps and drop off passes created by guard penetration. Gibson also does a great job blocking and changing shots with his great timing and ability to cover ground. He is still very much a work in progress and must add strength and extend his shooting range but this young forward has a bright future with steady improvement.
Kearney's Teammate, should improve over his current skill level. Would be a solid in state recruit. Kearney could help us land him as a solid back-up if Amir Williams decides against us.

Just my observation that I think many would agree with me. MSU and Tom Izzo are earning Credibility with a lot of young TOP FLITE recruits that he is a 1st class coach in every sense. We always knew that, but I think a lot of kids used to be scared to come to Michigan State because Izzo was so intense and the cold weather.
How this affects strategy? It seems that MSU should feel it is worth their while to pursue higher calibur athletes on a regular basis, Their last three or four recruiting classes have been pretty good in overall quality. The preliminary lists for 2011 and 2012 are either nonexistent or seem to have a dropoff in the quality of recruits they are currently keeping an eye on. A lot of 3 star athletes and very little activity for 4 and 5 star recruits. The 2011 class seems (for MSU and nationally) a little thin right now but could improve by next year as more analysis/recruiting is being done.
If we have the improved recognition, why not spend the time combing through the top tier of recruits?

Izzo likes his players from MI, OH, MN, IL, IN. Very few come from outside of that region (Chris Allen?). He's done pretty well with his recruiting formula to this point. I don't think he will change it much.
