And Chris Allen spent summers in Lansing living close to Magic's family. Allen was staying with an aunt and uncle IIRC.
Izzo wants the player's family involved, hard to do if they live too far away.

How this affects strategy? It seems that MSU should feel it is worth their while to pursue higher calibur athletes on a regular basis, Their last three or four recruiting classes have been pretty good in overall quality. The preliminary lists for 2011 and 2012 are either nonexistent or seem to have a dropoff in the quality of recruits they are currently keeping an eye on. A lot of 3 star athletes and very little activity for 4 and 5 star recruits. The 2011 class seems (for MSU and nationally) a little thin right now but could improve by next year as more analysis/recruiting is being done.
If we have the improved recognition, why not spend the time combing through the top tier of recruits?
|
Well keep in mind that 2011 recruits have only played 2 years of HS basketball and 2012 recruits have only played their freshmen years. While Izzo and Co definitely know the top flight players you're talking about, it's too early to acurately place the interest between players that young and schools. But rest assured, our 2011 and 2012 classes won't be comprised of middling players... they're gonna be elite prospects.

The commitment of Payne should be a breath of fresh air to everyone not sold on Amir Williams. Looks like a true big man won't be necessary or even desirable in 2011. You can do exactly what you're saying. One PG, two true wings, and a combo inside/outside guy. I would take your 4 enthusiastically. Not only that, I think that's a perfectly probable class.
Basically, it's
PG: Davis/PLP
SG: Kearney
SG: Anderson/?/?
SF/PF: McCune/Grady/Sampson
Have to wonder whether MSU is legitimately in the mix for Wayne Blackshear or Branden Dawson. From what I've heard, they're both big, rebouding guards who might fit well with Izzo. Blackshear was looking to visit and Dawson said MSU was in his Top 10 (at one point). Both five stars.

Well it seems to me we will take now:
PG: One of PLP or Jeremiah Davis.
Wings: We have Kearney, and most likely get one more. I dont know if were really in it for Dawson or Blackshear, and there is still Anderson from Suttons Bay too.
Forwards/Centers: Most likely just one of: Tommie McCune, Jakaar Sampson, Anton Grady, Percy Gibson, Amir Williams.
Well the backcourt could be looking real nice if we can get Jeremiah Davis early, and then play the rest of the forward prospects and maybe another guard prospect and see who advances the next year or so.
Things looking good!

From everything I've heard and read about them - yes please, yes, sure, NO!, preferably not, respectively.

This may be a very dumb question but as somebody said over on the Dwuan Anderson board said we are looking at 2 wings and a PF and we have one wing already. I heard a while back that Wayne Blackshear and Mike Shaw are supposedly a "package deal" and were going to come visit campus and decided to reschedule. Does Izzo and co. have any interest in going after these 2?

This is just my own speculation here...For point of conversation can someone provide any insight why we would not recruit Marquis Teague 2011 #1 PG from Indianapolis? We are planning on having a strong showing in Indy this season. He is within approx 4 hours from Lansing, obviously talented kid. He still has a handful of schools on his list, what says we wouldn't have a legit chance? Thought being 2011 would be a great time to recruit a top tier true point guard. What are your thoughts?

reading comprehension fail.
also, if you are trying to rag on that post, it's pretty obvious that it's copypasta from scout.

Good thing you don't have to make a living based on your people skills and I don't have to make a living on my writing skills. Thanks for pointing that out.

Very good possibility that he never showed any interest in MSU. Recruiting goes both ways.

I agree with Amir Williams though. When I saw him he seemed very uninterested in the action. When you watched Nix play last year, he had a real mean streak in him that was attractive. Saw nothing like that from Amir. If you watch the warm-ups though, you think he is a top 75 prospect.

I think that was me. I've never heard anyone rave about Gibson or offer him up as someone who is really MSU caliber. With the number of quality wing forward types out there (Sampson, Grady, McCune, etc.) and people like Jeremiah Davis and Dwuan Anderson, I can't see how he fits into the 2011 class right now. From what I remember, Kearney (when he comitted) gave the impression that Gibson doesn't have a full offer from MSU and may never receive one, and that made me think that perhaps Izzo feels the same.
I'm open to being persuaded otherwise if someone wants to say they've watched him play and he would carve a nice niche at MSU.
