The two top names in 2011: Brundidge and Henton...

Quote:
Carlton Brundidge 6-1 So Southfield
Plays with a chutzpah and physicality not often found in guards his age. While the outside shot comes and goes, Brundidge just knows how to create and get to the rack. He'll have to diversify his game dependng on his growth, as he's more slasher than point guard. But, there's plenty of time for either of those to happen.
A 6'1" SG. Lets hope he hits a growth spurt and soon.

Quote:
LaDontae Henton 6-5 So Lansing Eastern
Will he fall into what Spartan Magazine publisher Jim Comparoni calls the sophomore jinx? Too often, the state's best sophomore no longer holds the mythical No. 1 spot in his class two years down the line. Key for Henton is skill development and diversity of his game, and there are signs of progress for this lefty shooter and ball-handler. But he is most productive using his mature body in attack mode, which leaves Buckets open to Ron Banks (worst case) and Kelvin Torbert (best case) scenarios.
Kelvin Torbert is his "best case scenario"?

Torbert was really good. He scored over 1,000 career points and shot for a high percentage.

Don't get me wrong, Torbert was a very good player for MSU. It just seems like a strange "best case scenario" to to label Henton with. Is it just because he is physically mature for his age? IMO KT was an extremely unique player...the kind I doubt that Spartan fans will ever see again. Is Henton an extremely athletic and strong SG with a great jumper but little else? Does he play as high above the rim as KT did? Does he have t-rex arms that limit his overall skillset? From what I've heard, Henton just plays a different kind of game.

maybe he meant the part of Torbert being the #1 player in the nation, or he was atleast top couple

Referring to height I think

Torbert was too short (and had short arms compared to many wing players) to play inside, Henton is estimated by doctors to be 6'7" or 6'8" when done growing.

This stuff always makes me laugh. Where do you people come up with this information? And this is no disrespect to you gw as you are not the only one to mention 'doctor's saying player X will grow to be ...', but I think most of this information gets pulled out of somebody's ass.

It was said by Henton himself in a Scout article.

LaDontae said that is what the doctors told him what he would grow to when he went to the doctor recently. It was in an article somewhere, can't remember where. As for how the doctors tell some kids, particularly athletes and their parents, ask for a projection after an MRI is done. The doctor can use the MRI to tell whether the epiphyseal plates, or more commonly growth plates, have fused. If they have the cartilage that makes up a child's growth plate has started to ossify and growth has stopped. The doctors project how much more you will grow on just how much if any ossification has occurred.

No, it's for real. I leaned it from a "Different Strokes" episode.

How good is this class, nationally? Thoughts?

Worst case scenario is Ron Banks? Really? I mean, academically, yes. But do you remember Ron Banks? He was a beast his senior year and would have been a top prospect had it not been for his grades.

Side note....he played last year for California U. in Penn. They played Dayton in a exhibition game last year and I was able to see him play. I had no idea he was on the team, but as they announced the starting line-ups my buddy tells me he is from Lansing and I just said "uh-oh". He actually dominated the first 3 or 4 minutes but was obviously a lot older and it eventually showed. He got tired fairly quickly and pick up a couple of cheep fouls which limited his action the rest of the game...but you could tell he still had some great basketball left in him.

My freshman year my coach told me I was one of the best freshmen in the state of Michigan but unless I worked hard I would only be as good as the best freshman in the state of Michigan... I think everyone can figure out how that one turned out.
