Hoops Have we looked at this kid at all?

Harrison Barnes - Basketball Recruiting

He's been a top prospect for a while now -- I e-mailed MSU's assistants this link quite some time ago -- but I see he's exploded this summer and is now a 5* recruit.

I've seen him play live a few times -- he's legit. Can't believe the offers that are coming in now.

From what I've heard, he's like a 3.8 student, too.

I'm sure our staff has at least taken a look at him, right?

A year ago, I would've agreed with you.

With the offers on the table now and the national interest he's getting (5*, No. 6 player in the '10 class), now I'm not so sure.

FWIW...

HARRISON’S EMERGENCE

One of the more intriguing stories to come out of the LeBron Camp is that of Harrison Barnes.

Barnes is a smooth, athletic wing from Ames, Iowa. Both of his parents attended Iowa State and he lives in close enough proximity to the campus that he can actually walk it.

Barnes is a 3.4 student and is nearly as serious with the saxophone as he is with a basketball in his hands.

Barnes fared well at both the Nike Jamboree and the NBA Camp, so he hasn’t been surprised by his strong performance thus far in Akron.

Prior to the spring, he held offers from Iowa State, Iowa and Indiana State. Now he’s added offers from Texas, Kansas, Indiana, Maryland and others.

Barnes makes a splash
If prospects were stocks, you'd want to invest in Harrison Barnes of Ames, Iowa.
He's a high school junior-to-be who's making a big splash at the LeBron James Skills Academy this week.
Kentucky and Indiana are among the schools lavishing recruiting attention on Barnes, a 6-foot-5 wing with a soft jump shot. He's also listing Iowa State (where his mother is a secretary in the Department of Music), Iowa, TCU, Maryland, Kansas, Texas, Tennessee, Oklahoma, DePaul, Illinois and Florida.
Barnes, who also was named to the academic all-conference team, is in no hurry to make a college choice. “Because I'm so young,” he said. “I just want to get better.”

I know all of that -- I'm just not sure how he could pick a dysfunctional program like Iowa State over some of the other teams on his list (I just wish we were one of them -- the kid is legit).
