'09 IL PG Marcus Jordan
MJ's son is interested in MSU.
Marcus Jordan - Basketball Recruiting
I figured since there's a thread about him on tRCMB, we should have one here.
He'll probably go to Illinois like his brother, but it wouldn't be surprising if he wanted to walk-on for (obviously, money isn't an issue for him).

He's next on MSU's 2009 Quick List according to Rival.com. There's no indication that MSU is actively recruiting him, but if he keeps putting up 30-pt games this summer, everyone may start to take notice.
Otherwise, it does appear that he's headed to the Illini.

He's taller than Drew and can throw down...
I actually think this kid could be good off the bench for MSU. I guess we'll see how good he is this summer.
I don't think we'd make an offer for him... but, as I said, it's not like money is an issue for him.
It couldn't hurt having MJ on the stands from time to time.

He's not good enough to get a ship. It's great he is interested though.

Peach Jam Top Surprises
| Marcus Jordan, SG, Rising Stars
| | Michael Jordan's kid was pretty darn impressive over the course of several games at the Peach Jam. It was probably the best game-to-game effort he's had on the grassroots circuit this year. The 6-foot-3 guard scored with the best of them and played a physical brand of basketball that made it tough for defenders to keep a body between Jordan and the rim. Thought to be a mid-level prospect, Jordan may have played himself into a high-major scholarship offer this month. |
|
Just a quick update from Rivals.com on Marcus' Peach Jam performance. The kid is trying to represent and play himself into a D1 scholarship.

He's already a mid-major D1 prospect, he's working toward high-majors such as msu, wiscy, iu (maybe?), etc...

OK. He's trying to get the attention of high-major D1 programs.
Here's a blurb from Rivals.com Sunday's Peach Jam on the 14th:
This Week:
I just watched him bury two 3s in a row in the AAU Super Showcase in Orlando on ESPNU. They're talking about how his stock is rising and how hard he works on both ends of the floor. It looks like his Dad got him some new basketball goggles and he seems to be adjusting to them rather well. I haven't watched enough of the game yet to know if these remarks are genuine or respectfully polite.
The AAU Super Showcase continues today at 5PM on ESPNU.

There is no more wondering. Marcus Jordan is a high-major prospect. The powerfully built guard is making it too hard to keep him out of the highest level with his play this month. Jordan scored an efficient 20 against Philly Pride. He's a pure scorer that can power through just about any strong defensive line that tries to step in front of him.

PG and SG will be addressed in '10.
And to continue my complaints about Rivals BBall updates....they don't even have MSU as a school of interest for Appling!

The thing is, Marcus Jordan doesn't need a scholarship offer. He's got money (lots and lots of money), and he'd be happy to walk-on to a high-major like his brother did (although by all accounts, he's a lot better than his brother).
If Izzo offered him a walk-on spot, I don't see him rejecting him for any other school except perhaps Illinois.

There was some talk last season that he'd walk on at Illinois like his brother, but I haven't heard much on that recently. Also it sounds like he's played really well this summer so may have some better options (i.e. scholarships) available to him now. Also, not sure listing him as a PG is correct, everything I've read indicates he's more of a 2G/wing.
Of course with Jamar Smith gone at UI, they could give him a ride for a couple of seasons now....

I'll say, look at all of the High-major D1 offers he's picked up!

FWIW Marcus's favorite team growing up was Michigan according to his friend and AAU teammate Nik Garcia.

If that's the case, then it looks like he's found himself a home.
I think MSU's cupboard's pretty full at his position anyway, which is why Izzo hasn't offered among other things.
