'13 MI F Steve Haney Jr
He currently is going to be a forward at the next level.
Scout.com: Class of 2013 - Haney Jr. and Tucker Jr
Steve Haney Jr. is a 6'3" 12 yr old who is being recruited right now by University of Kentucky and is going on a scheduled visit in August....Averaged 37 a game last year in middle school and is Magic Johnson's cousin. He's Very young 7th grader supposed to reach 6'8". Scored 39 against #1 team in the nation, Spiece Blackman from Ft Wayne Indiana at the Spiece Natl tournament. Will attend ELHS...pure shooter and smooth.
and... here's another post when someone asked about him maybe commiting to Kentucky.

I know Haney Jr's Dad and he wouldn't go for that stuff... Haney Sr. knows Izzo and Montgomery real well too (played against Montgomery in college), so it could get interesting. The kid is huge, size 15 shoe, and I think is still 12, but shoots the three and is REAL long and is fast.....Middle school team was 19-0 and beat Holt in the championship game and he had 41pts....most of his family is from Lansing, so he might stay close...Magics cuz, so Im sure he will have something to say about everything

Okay, I'm completely not down with talking about kids this early. And I also question the whole age thing, being Magic's supposed cousin. However, if Magic has a cousin and he's getting this kind of hype, this year....I'm all about it!

Re: Class of 2013 - Haney Jr. and Tucker Jr
no, he's a blood cousin.....kid is mixed, dad is former Lansing Everett All State and DI player Steve Haney. Sr (white guy), and his Mom is Magic's first cousin.....Jr's Grandpa and Magic's Mom are brother and sister...if you could follow that...by the way Haney Sr and Magic I think are the only 2 former Vikings to ever average over 25ppg in a season so blood lines are deep.
point about 'respect' is that his pops has been around and isnt jumping on the hype band wagon....they will take a look because when the head asst coach at UK invites you to Lexington at 12 or 13, you dont say "no thanks"....kid is a 3.5 student, yes sir, no sir type......
Ill keep everyone posted on their visit....His uncle told me that Gillespie is making a point to be there

Re: Class of 2013 - Haney Jr. and Tucker Jr
I heard some rumors about Haney Jr. and Tucker Jr going to play at Lansing Everett together and Haney Sr going back to his old HS to coach when Johnny Jones leaves. But now word is Haney got hired by Fleming to be an assistant coach at ELHS, so there goes that. Haney and Tucker have always been close so it is crazy their two kids are where they are at. Im telling you, I have seen the kid play, if he keeps growing and developing there is no way he MSU will let him out of here, he is that dominant....the only game I saw he went 15-15 from the line in the 7th grade and had 33 in the first half against okemos.....I also know that Monty and Izzo know about him....they wouldnt let UK or anyone pull him out their own backyard.

Also his dad seems like a great person to run a kids recruitment. So I don't think MSU has to worry about Galespies snake oil.

Right...my bad...that's what I meant, that it wasn't through Dad.
I looked into what Haney Sr. has been doing...boy, you really couldn't ask for a better background to lead his son through the process. Ran some of Magic's business interests for awhile, and had involvement in his basketball team in Sweden (where, IIRC, former MSU recruit and temporary Florida Gator Christian Dreijer played). He's also an attorney.

No...The frosh in high school when school starts up are '12.
These will be 8th Graders. I can't believe nobody is mentioning that the kid is visiting kentucky who happens to have one '11 and one '12 commit already.
Let's face it...'13 is not too young anymore as sad as that may seem to some. The coaches have to start earlier. If you think some of us are bad for talking about '13 kids then what does that make the coaches?
It's part of life. Some of you want to turn a blind eye to this and think it's wrong. It's part of the game. You have to inquire about kids earlier and earlier. Take it from Bruce Hornsby.... "That's just the way it is".
We should be glad we have Izzo. Izzo and Monty are very patient more so than most coaches. They don't drool over 7th graders like Galespie does. That said they just can't ignore the kids and act like they don't exist.

Touche.
Lemme add however, that I think what Gillispie (however its spelled) is doing at Kentucky is effing rediculous.

No doubt. As I said you don't see Izzo doing that. Izzo offered Dar Tucker as a FR. I'm sure he has offered a few others as FR also. Izzo has never offered a 7th or 8th Grader. At least this kid has a strong father figure who can take him through this recruitment. Look what the poster said..This kids dad is not even buying the hype. That's a good sign.
I'm not even the first here to start a thread about him. This is from November 2007.
