Miller, who plays his high school ball at Quality Education Academy in Winston-Salem, is receiving significant attention from many of the elite programs in the country, with reported scholarship offers from Duke, Wake Forest, Oklahoma, Marquette, Tennessee, Purdue, Alabama and Michigan.
At 6-foot-9 and 190 pounds, Miller is in the midst of a growth spurt and has turned in an impressive showing on the traveling circuit this spring and summer. Incredibly versatile, Miller's wide array of skills make him a reliable shot blocker, a strong perimeter player and a prospect who can make jaws drop with his ability to play above the rim.
Telep believes Miller could excel at college as a small forward, a power forward or even as a shooting guard.
"He's still defining who he is as a player," Telep said. "But he's been fantastic throughout the spring and early summer. In my mind it would be impossible to give him enough credit for how hard and how consistent he has played."
As for all of those coaches jockeying for position in Miller's recruitment?
"The people who have offered him haven't even seen him for the last couple of months," Telep said. "I'm sure when they see him again, they're going to say, 'Whoa!' First they're going to realize that he's gotten bigger. And then his improvement with his overall skills will look even more appealing than all that.
"It will be fun to watch the faces on some coaches when they see Quincy for the first time in a while."

hmmm.... The kid is from a school in North Carolina called "Quality Education Academy" which sounds like a diploma-mill he has NBA type measureables meaning for the next 2-years people will be blowing smoke up his backside about what a sure-fire lottery pick he is and those same people will likely be the influential hangers-on when his college decision is made. I'll go out on a limb and say "not a future Spartan".

We gotta get on his list
Super 60 Quincy Miller lists five
ESPNU Super 60 power forward Quincy Miller spoke with ESPN's South Carolina affiliate website Gamecock Football: TheBigSpur.com and listed his top five schools as of now.
In no particular order, Kentucky, Oklahoma, Baylor, Wake Forest and Dukr are the leaders for Miller. He also noted that North Carolina has not offered but if they do he will consider the Tar Heels.

How many schollies left for 2010?
One of the fastest rising prospects in Michigan is 6'9 forward Jon Horford for the Michigan Mustings. The Mustangs are still alive in the 17U division. Keith Appling has been getting great reviews as always and Jon Horford is drawing more attention. His latest list given to the NBE Blog was MSU, Florida, Alabama, Wake Forrest, and Miami. Izzo was watching intently but might be full in 2010 with Horford's teammates Guana and Appling locked up already.
Trey on display
Shooting guard Trey Zeigler (Mount Pleasant, Mich.) was terrific in the open court; he made plays in the passing lanes that turned into easy fast-break baskets. Zeigler made excellent decisions on the break. He made great passes to teammates ahead of him, and when the defense approached out of control, he got to the rim and finished. Zeigler displayed the ability to see the entire court, and rebounded on the defensive glass, after which he was a threat to go coast-to-coast and finish above the rim.

according to the sun times reporter at an AAU tourny in chicago, he said if michigan commit tim hardaway jr played in illinois he would be the 3rd best player in the state. that means, if you go by scouts rankings, he would take Head's position at #40 player in the country. may have to watch out for this one.

That statement has been overstated. Hardaway is very good, just not that great yet. Time will tell.

Brian Gregory gets verbal from Spearman from Illinois. His second top 100 rivals player for the 2010 class. IF he can get Payne, then he is looking at a top15 class.

I keep reading 5 in 2010. How is this happening? I can think of 2 scenarios, Kalin leaving early or Herzog somehow graduating and getting off a basketball scholarship. Which is it?

5 scholarships for 2010
Jim Comparoni, in "The Spartan" states that MSU has two more open spots after Appling, Byrd, and Gauna. He states that in two separate articles in the most recent magazine. When looking at the recruiting chart on this board, there is only 1 spot left after Appling, Byrd, and Gauna. Anyone know why Comp thinks that there are two spots left?

Is Austin Thorton listed as a scholarship? He may be a year-to-year scholarship player.

Thornton is not factored in. He is year-to-year and the total is assumed with him being off scholarship.
I have the same question. If Izzo takes 5 players in 2010, he must know (or be extremely confident) that someone is leaving early.
Does Izzo have a history of taking more players assuming someone will leave?
What are the people who assume we could take Payne and Zeigler thinking?

Think if you look at who reportedly leads for Payne (Calipari & Huggins) you can see that he likely won't be at MSU

doesn't explain how we would take him if he wants to come here, which is what's being reported. I've not been able to understand where the scholarships are coming from.
We lost Walton, Ibok, Suton and Gray. replaced them with Sherman and Nix. 2 extra spots. We're losing Morgan and Dahlman. That means 4 spots if my math is right. We've already got Gauna, Appling and Byrd. How can we take Payne and Zeigler? The articles are not stating that we are taking the first that commits. They are stating that we can take both. I wonder if something is up with Herzog because he'll be a 5th year guy, but no one seems to know or they aren't saying at least.

Even if Izzo suspected that someone was going pro (Lucas?) or going to bypass his final year of eligibility (Herzog?), it'd be far too early to act on that information, right?
What if Lucas gets hurt? What if Herzog goes for 10 and 10?
Anyway, I know what the scholarship chart looks like. That why I'm one of the people confused about this talk of 5 in 2010.
