I played against Al Horford when I was a senior and he was a soph. Horford was not hugely talked about when he was a soph but was a solid player. However, his junior year he improved and his senior year was outstanding. It wouldn't surprise me if his little brother is similar. I think Al grew about 4 inches from soph to senior year and improved his coordination and skills immensely.

Henton had another great game, 24 I think. Someone at the game told me he looks like an absolute stud. I think he started a little slower this year but has picked it up as of late.....by the way, Lansing Eastern is now 9-1 and has had its best season thus far in probably close to 10 years.

No real mention of Horford, but he was listed with 8 in the box score.

yeah his doctor told him not to play these last 2 games because of his knee injury. He should be back though by the next game. and who do you think was louder? masons 100+ student section? or GL's 15 person student section? lol.

I have coached with Coach Sweet before. He can be a d***, but he is an excellent coach.

My elementary school gym teacher! He did give off that impression.

Anyways, Al and Jon have different games, I just don't think that Jon is going to blow up like I always thought Al would.

It's Joe Cook and he was a horses behind when he went to Eastern felt that being the son of Paul Cook gave him a crown of royalty, I was not surprised when Grand Ledge parents ran him out of town.

MSU has offered Horford

Looks like he is the #1 big man recruit for 2010.

Is Horford more of a legitimate center as opposed to, say, Roe? I haven't seen him play and don't really get what position he's envisioned for at MSU. I assume he's grown but some of his measurements almost sound like a SF. I get the impression that's not his game.

Can anyone help clear this up?

I beleive Comp said he was offered in January. What's the deal, here? Has his offer been rescinded? Obviously, the big one and done center is probably first on our list. But, who else?

What's the chance that Horford was Plan A, Gauna was Plan B, and Izzo and staff grew tired of waiting on Horford and decided to pull the trigger on Gauna?
I've been under the impression that Horford was a higher priority and Izzo had been attending his games more regularly.

They must have suspected that once Gauna was offered, he was Green and that'd mean no Horford unless they surprise everyone and take both.

I think I asked this before, can Horford play the 3 in college?

Need a wing.

With Nix and Sherman coming in next year, Gauna gives us ANOTHER big man so offering Horford would seem to be overkill. Plus, we just wrapped up our FIFTH FINAL FOUR so we don't have to settle for two mediocre 3 star players in one class. Izzo's next recruit will be somebody that can play right way at the wing because Summers and Lucas could be gone after next year. Izzo is just making sure Jon isn't as good as his brother

Horford sounds like a player with great potential and a "high ceiling" as they like to say. He might win the board popularity contest over Gauna. I'd support taking him for potential if, as you say, we weren't already filling up in the frontcourt.

I underline this for effect: The player I think we most need to replace in one form or another in 2010 is Raymar Morgan. We have no one else currently on the roster or commited who does what he does. Potentially, Zeigler or Leslie could do that, short-version and tall-version.

Sidenote on 's, Wake Forest also has two three stars commited for 2010. They're not MSU but they're not a third-rate program either. Another reminder that stars are everything.

Though to be fair, not many guys do everything that Raymar does at his size. He's a special player (when he's "right").

Agree on the star ratings. It's a crapshoot. Ibok, Suton and Green were all 3 star guys. Zog and Naymick were 4. Quise, Roe and Paul Davis were all 5. Seems like historically, we've gotten more out of our 3 star bigs than our 4's.

If Izzo likes a 3, then I'm on board. I'll take our program's continuity over tOSU's 1-and-done big man program any day.

Al developed later, and wasn't a big time recruit until his senior year. I played against him when he was a soph. He was good, but if you told me he would be a lottery pick and a very solid NBA player in a couple years I would have laughed at you.
