Not a coach, I just know quite a bit of people in the community of Suttons Bay / former players.
Correction, Izzo was there solo watching some half court pick-up games last night, gotta be the first time Izzo has ever made a trip to Northern Michigan for basketball reasons....

Word is he's down to CMU and MSU, and he needs to get his grades up. He hasn't got an offer from us yet, but if Izzo himself goes to see him, I'm guessing that part will work out. Just needs to get those grades up or he's a Chippewa. Luckily he's got a little time to do that.

Needs core courses
His grades are around 2.0 but he needs to take more core courses to catchup there.

Good to hear, hopefully he works hard at his grades. UofM had an assistant coach visiting open gym this past Sunday.

Exactly. He's green if the grades come around, if not, CMU will take him.

Actually, you might say MSU is battling CMU for 2 recruits if you count Trey Z.

I have been hearing that Anderson is good, but I am amazed that a player from my former high school has a chance to be on scholarship at MSU. I guess I'll have to go take in a game or two with my dad this year to see this kid play.

Dwaun Anderson: Every year there is an ultra athletic wing with skill that slips through the cracks. In the 2010 class it was Justin Coleman, and in 2011 it could be Anderson. Anderson is 6-foot-3 with freaky athleticism and a high motor. Consistently Anderson would attack the glass on the offensive end and dunk home misses with authority. Also he has an adequate handle on the perimeter that allows him to get to the rim and finish around the bucket against taller defenders. Beyond that, Anderson showed good form from deep, and while he didn't take many jumpers, he did make a majority of them. Overall he had the look of a no doubt high-major player, and someone who is primed to explode onto the national radar.

So does the Brandan Kearney decision put Anderson out of the running? Don't they play the same position? How do the two measure up on talent, apart from grades?

no effect really. I think the generally belief is that this class will be 2 wings/pg and a PF/big. With Kearney in the mix I think we stand a good shot at landing Davis, those two+ Anderson gives us 3 athletic guys with good size to handle our backcourt.

Yep. In addition to Kearney this class will have a PG, Big Man, and another player (probably a 2 or 3).
If Izzo could work some magic and make this class something like Davis, Kearney, Anderson, McCune (or another big).... I think we could all that.
FTR I think Anderson is really intriguing. He's a super-athlete but comes from a tiny little school. But Izzo's been on him pretty much before anyone. I think the kids a diamond in the rough, wouldn't be surprised if he goes Green and develops really nice for us.

a lot of people on Spartanmag are saying that Anderson is the BEST in state player. Super athletic and has apparently worked very hard on improving his jump shot to the point where that's what coaches like the most about him. I think it's somewhere in this thread where Anderson says MSU is his dream school, my understanding is he'd commit on the spot if offered but he needs to fix his grades. I would be VERY happy with a class of Davis (pg) Kearney & Anderson (wings) and McClune.

This grade sounds a bit low or conservative for the eval they give him. Perhaps they are waiting until they can really test him against solid competition, either in the state tourney or next summer on the circuit. Maybe they realize him as a legit talent, but didn't get to see enough of him yet. 90 is a good rating, they just don't say anything negative to counterbalance his strengths, perhaps misleading me to think he should be rated a 92-93.
Scouts Inc. Grade
90
Evaluation
October, 2009: First off, Dwaun is an athletic freak! His ability to elevate is the first thing that catches your attention. He has a strong body and is assertive on the court. Anderson is unstoppable in transition where he finishes way above the rim. He is a lefty and is strong going to his left. He needs to continue to develop his right hand. His shot is streaky but his release is solid. He has range on his shot to 20 feet. He did not show any in between game as most of his shot attempts were dunks or lay ups. He is an excellent rebounder for his position given his strong body, aggression and super hops. As he performed players began to double team him when got the ball and he showed the ability to be a good and willing passer. Not much defense was played but he has the physical gifts to be a lock down defender. A sleeper no more, Anderson is an excellent prospect in the 2011 class.
I have to say I think that would be awesome to fill 3 of our 4 scholarships on Michigan players like Kearney, Anderson, and McCune all who seem to be late bloomers with huge upside for continued developent. As opposed to Brundidge, Williams and anyone out of state that seem to not be as good as many originally thought. (That might just be the RCMB bias.) In addition to those three, I wouldn't hate on Davis, or Blackshear, if they wanted to come.

Im not gonna lie, I have never seen Dwaun in person or know anything more than people here on this board. But I just watched his rivals highlights and he looks awesome. He clearly has athleticism, despite not seeing any dunks, and he is a fearless shooter with a quick release and has the ability to adjust in the air to get off the shot. He was being guarded by Ziegler and showed he was not afraid to prove something. He looked pretty tall also, like 6'3 minimum.
I think while Ziegler looks great and would be a insane pick up, I feel like passing on Dwuan would be a repeat of seeing CDR do well in college and wonder why we didn't pick him up.
As a side note I heard something about grades and maybe attitude, so maybe thats a reason we havent given him the full schpeel but I am sold otherwise.
