Was Jeff Smoker Amish?

From left, Jessie King, Jason Smoker and Dave ''Sledge'' Esh: the teens were going to watch the Super Bowl.

Jeff was a Pennsylvania boy too right? Any amish connection to him?

And wow, my font went to hell... not like the Amish who are very much heavenbound.

Jeff Smoker is Menninite...the two are similar, but I'm sure of the differences between that and Amish.

I think the Menninites have invented electricity, but as of yet the Amish have not invented it.

The word is Mennonites. They, the Amish and others all descend from the Germanic (Swiss, German and Dutch) Anabaptist movement. Do a Google search using "Mennonites" and "Amish" and you'll get all kinds of information. Here are a couple of links:

He is Mennonite I do believe. My friend is Mennonite. There is an Amish offshoot to their group.

Spartanly yours,

There are a lot in Indiana in the Elkhart area. Goshen College has lots of mennonite people going there.

Everytime I hear the word "Mennonite" I start thinking of...

Spartanly yours,

I remember traveling through the Pennsylvanian Dutch areas as a kid. My parents were into their family tree thing at the time. Stayed a nubmer of times in Lancaster County. Talk about a culture shock as a 7 year.

Menninite's use more modern conveniences, and are more reliant on modern convenience.

Great story regarding Smoker and being "Amish." At a reception for him in St. Louis he introduced his girlfriend (who is smokin!) and in response to a joke about him being Amish told about how the first time she visited his parents' home in Lancaster there was a huge storm the night before which knocked out the electricity. When they got to his parents' home and his girlfriend saw that there was no electricity she yelled "I knew you were Amish!"
