Frequently Asked Questions

What is the money used for?
Proceeds will go towards our time supporting this site, adding new features to the site, software & hardware upgrades, as well as monthly server/bandwidth fees.

Don't you make money from advertising sales?
Yes we do. The problem is that advertising revenue hasn't always steady over the years, although we are happy with our current advertising network. Sometimes we've been able to break even, sometimes we haven't, and sometimes we've done better than breaking even. It is just too inconsistent to rely on long term, which is why we implemented the donation system.

How much are you asking for and how often?
We feel that $25 each year ($2.09 a month) is a fair amount to ask for a user subscription/donation. If you'd like to donate more than that, you will automatically be credited for additional years of donor status.

Will my Varsity Member status ever expire?
Since we have to continue to support the site year after year, our costs are also recurring year after year. Your Varsity Member status will expire one year* from the date that you originally donated.

(* Each increment of $25 earns you an additional year of Varsity Member status. For example, if you originally donated $50, you automatically received 2 years of Varsity Member status and therefore would not need to renew after one year.)

What if I donate in the middle of my subscription year?
If you donate before your "subscription" has run out for the year, the system will simply add on additional years to the end of your first subscription for each additional $25.

Why is it optional to subscibe/donate?
While we feel that $25 per year is not an unreasonable amount to pay for the board/site, we don't want to exclude those who choose not to donate or people from other schools who choose not to donate. If you get $25 worth of enjoyment out of the site PER YEAR, we ask that you please consider donating to the site.

Is my donation tax deductible?
No. Sorry, but we are not a non-profit organization/charity.

What special privileges will people who subscribe/donate get?
We aren't taking away any privileges for people who choose not to donate except for:

1) When the server is extremely busy (after a big game/breaking news) AND the server can't handle the traffic, only Varsity Members will be able to participate. Otherwise nobody would be able to use the board while it was overloaded. This way, at least those people who have donated will be able to access the site.

2) Donors will not see ads below the header of the site.

3) Only Varsity Member will be able to play the games in our Arcade section.

4) Only Varsity Member will be able to bet on games in our vBookie section.

5) People who are Varsity Members also will get twice as much storage space in their Personal Messages folder.

We may add additional features for subscribers in the future.

How to become a Varsity Member

PayPal is our preferred method of payment. It is currently our only method for processing credit card payments.

Note: If you pay via PayPal using an online check, it usually takes them 2-3 days to clear the check. Paying by credit/debit card usually completes the transaction within an hour.
