Ted F. Valentine

Why the NCAA continues to allow Ted Valentine anywhere near a basketball court in a big game is beyond me. This guy is the biggest travesty in the game today. He continually makes the game all about him and not the players. Not to mention the fact that he is one of the worst officials in the country.

There is NO WAY this SOB should be allowed to do an Elite 8 game. Hell, he shouldn't be allowed to do any game of significance.

The square is seldom if ever cool ... He is "not with it", that is, he doesn't know "whats happening." But if he manages to figure it out, he moves up a notch to "hip." And if he can bring himself to approve of what's happening, he becomes "groovy." And after that, with much luck and perseverence, he can rise to the rank of "cool."

College basketball officials are not tied to a conference like college football refs. A lot of officals do games in a variety of conferences, usually sticking to a particular region.

I went to the MSU-Syracuse game this year, and an official in that game did the Notre Dame-UConn game I went to the following night.

And last year Tom Rucker was EVERYWHERE. I swear he did two games a day. Valentine has been far less visible this year, he must be doing fewer games because he's hard to miss with his attempts to over-dramatize every call he makes.

Sort of. Most officials work more than one conference, but they are employed by certain conferences. So, for example, Jim Burr is employed by the Big Ten, Big East, and ACC. Hightower works for the Big Ten and Big 12. They all have one conference as their "primary" conference--for Burr it is the Big East and for Hightower it is the Big Ten--but they work games in other conferences on their off-nights from their primary conference.

Valentine was at the AZ-KS game and he was HORRENDOUS. But what else do we expect. As for the comparison between him and Hightower, to me, Valentine is worse because, as was mentioned above, his over-dramatizes every call and gives out technicals whimsically. Hightower may be incompetent, but Valentine is malicious.

I'll say it again (like 5x now) - every Big 10 ref should immediately be fired after this season. They sucked hard this year. I couldn't wait for the tourney to start to see REALLY how good a team we have w/o those bafoons in black/white stripes calling 50+ fouls/game - what a complete joke. They absolutely RUINED at least 5 of our games this year due to the ridiculous amount of fouls being called.
