Michigan Basketball presents "Nascar Night" Feb 21st

Fastball right down the middle. Do your worst:

February 13, 2006

"NASCAR Night" Slated for Feb. 21 Contest vs. Illinois

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan Athletic Department and the Michigan International Speedway have teamed up for "NASCAR Night" when the Wolverine men's basketball team hosts Illinois Tuesday, Feb. 21, at Crisler Arena.

"NASCAR Night" will feature a Michigan-branded mini-NASCAR model car, which will be given away free to the first 4,000 fans in attendance at the game. Also, there will be various ticket giveaways for 2006 MIS events, including a pair of NASCAR Nextel Cup Series tickets, and a fan hospitality package.

"We couldn't be any happier with the MIS partnership," said U-M assistant athletic director Mark Riordan. "Our fans will be exposed to what MIS has to offer and we hope to bring some MIS fans in to see what a great time they can have at a Michigan basketball game."

"The University of Michigan has always had great tradition within their collegiate athletic programs and we are excited about the opportunity to have a presence during a classic basketball matchup between Michigan and Illinois," said MIS director of marketing Keith Karbo.

In addition to the giveaways throughout the night, MIS commemorative posters will be available to fans who visit the MIS display located on the main Crisler Arena concourse. The MIS pace car will also be on display for viewing outside of Crilser Arena's Gate B (southwest side).

For those who fans who are not one of the first 4,000 to receive the Michigan-branded mini-NASCAR model car, fans will be able to order the model car for $5 by calling (734) 615-2025.

Michigan's game against Illinois will be air nationally on ESPN and will have a 7 p.m. tipoff. A limited number of tickets remain and are available for purchase by calling the U-M Athletic Ticket Department at 1-866-296-MTIX or by ordering online.

I gotta give them credit, they know their fan base. Downriver Domestic Abuser Night wouldn't be a bad promotion idea.

Well, there's no possibility that those will be thrown on the floor if there's a bad call.

Oh my.

It'll be like that little metal MIS car that I gave you at the race last year. Those things could do some damage.

I think we sold out Wisconsin and a lot of people got tickets to Reply
Illinois to.

They can't give away people's tickets who simply don't show up in the blue section.

Though I wish they would.

People who aren't necessarily hard cores who have tickets and might not show up. We've wanted marketing improvement. NASCAR is huge in Michigan, and this is a damn good move.

WISC was a Saturday game coming off the MSU win. Reply
Illinois game is a Tuesday nighter with the team on a bit of a slide.

It only takes one loss for most U-M basketball fans to have a great excuse not to show up.

I'd be shocked if we sold it out. Pathetic, but true.
