Charles Schwab cartoon commercials...now a movie in that format

you know those charles schwab commercial where they talk about investments, but the people are in a cartoon sort of state?...well, Kianna Reeves will be in a movie that mixes reality with that same type of cartoon style. I saw the trailer on trailers on demand and it sucks.

How are the Chuck cartoons generated? I wonder if they are live action converted to cartoons by algorithmic means. That would be pretty ironic, going to the trouble to film live actors then turning them into cartoon animations.

It's "Keanu" by the way...

There's already a movie in this format called "Waking Life". Pick it up if you get a chance, it's pretty good.

It's an Adobe After Effect that they put over live video and makes it look like it's a cartoon...

The correct term is "Rotoscoping"

LMAO

Thanks! But I'd rather have my Creative Suite handle all the rendering...not a fan of drawing on video tape...

lol

Even if its digital, its still called rotoscoping, even if it isn't hand-drawn animation.

Quote:
Smoking Car Productions invented a digital rotoscoping process in 1994 for the creation of its critically-acclaimed adventure game The Last Express. The process was awarded U.S. Patent 6061462: Digital Cartoon and Animation Process.
Using a similar technique, Richard Linklater produced a digitally rotoscoped feature called Waking Life, creating a surreal image of live action footage, a technique which is now being used to produce the movie A Scanner Darkly. Linklater is the first director to use digital rotoscoping to create an entire feature film.
