PipersFly and "genius" should never be in the same sentence. He's probably the only MSU "fan" in the world who thinks that Izzo should go coach somewhere else.

Getting back to whether any of our recruits with be an McD AA, remember that Allen is tearing up the competition in Georgia right now and could move up. Also, Bill Walker is still ranked on there and is already playing colllege ball. Anybody else on the list ineligible (Mayo)?

Is it wrong that sometimes I think it would be fun to do to him what Beecher did to Schillinger in the weight room in "Oz"?

Either way, Herzog is long, should be able to defend and, unlike some bigs, shouldn't be a total liability on offense. This class stopped the three year recruiting downturn.

Devendorf's decommit is well known. But Izzo lost out on some other players who would help. Would Wilson Chandler help? I know he had several red flags, but so did Zach Randolph. He would like nice on the front line. Losing out on Ryan Wright to UCLA doesn't seem like a huge loss for now. How would this team look with Dominic James running the point?

At times this season he has looks great. Then against better opponents he looks lost. I doubt he lives up to his 5* billing and #6 SF, but he should have a good career at MSU. Suton is the single most frustrating player I've ever watched. He seems to get it at times, then other times plays like Graham Brown with a blindfold on. Ibok plays good defense, but brings nothing to the table on offense. Maybe bank his scholarship for next year?
The class is the first of an unusual class for Izzo. There are some lower rated players. For various reasons, including the fact that some didn't want to play for MSU, Izzo lost out on Malik Hairston, Joe Crawford, Shaun Pruitt, and, most importantly, Al Horford (rated #7 PF). Since the bigs are part of the problem, you have to blame this class. Although looking at other big men available, there wasn't much. In hindsight losing Horford was significant. I understand the UM decommit and Izzo not wanting to go there, but he's turned out to be a great player. One that would help MSU.

Hindsight being 20/20, Izzo could have went after Brandon Jenkins, who has had a serviceable career at Louisville. Not signing Olu Famutimi looks smart in hindsight, but he wouldn't have come here.
Grade: C (including Cotton in the grade)
I dunno. This 2006 and 2007 classes look strong after a few year downturn.

This class hurt, and is a C- at best. In all honesty what was Tom doing this year?

Just for example...How many of you were in love with AJ Granger when he was a frosh/soph, because I know I was not. He turned out to be one of my favorite Spartans of all time. Neitzel wasn't anything special up until this year, partly because of who he was playing with, but the verdict was still out on him up until this year when he started playing all big ten basketball. You've got to give kids like Gray and Suton to finish their careers here to put a grade on them.

It is very tough to recruit guards when they are looking at Ager, Brown, Neitzel and during the recruiting process Cotton was still committed. Walton is a solid recruit and has turned out to be MORE than a program player.
It seems that most on this board expect MSU to just roll out the carpet and the five stars will come rolling in..
Personally, I enjoy watching Izzo's teams built with a few stars and solid contributions from upper classmen. The national title team was built this way.
I'm not sure Izzo wants to load the team with diaper dandies.. tough to get those guys to play defense

What rankings are those posted for our 07 class? Which service?
I thought all of the major ones had all 3 in the top 35?

Not really, this is Rivals, which is probably the most accurate???
They are not lock NBA early entry talents, but they are all extraordinarily good fro the scheme.
Allen is like a poor man's Shannon Brown but with more ball skills and a deadly J.
Lucas is a little piece of iron PG who can pretty much penetrate at will and shoot from the outside. He can finish above the rim @ 6'1"
Summers may end up being the best of them all, he's very smooth, A slightly less athletic JRich but longer and more slight, probably a more 'finished product' that JRich was when he walked onto campus though.
Most importantly all these guys can run like the wind and probably defend multiple positions.

How can anybody knock Walton?
He is rock solid, is constantly improving and is only a true soph. Easily the best defender since CBell. And that is saying something.

I must have just not looked close enough. I could swear at one point Summers was higher ranked then the other two....

I'm not necessarily defending Naymick here, because clearly he needs work, but he has been hurt almost the entire time as well. That shoulder surgery he had last spring should have been done 2 years ago.

Naymick leads the team in +/- for MSU through the first 8 Big Ten games.

He was the highest rated player we had for a while. Allen was the lowest.

Scout is terrible for both. I wouldn't look to Rivals for bball though.

Maybe MSU's been spoiled too long with the Shannon Brown/Charlie Bell type shooting guards. A shooting guard that just brings defensive intensity is Tim Bograkos. An asset to the team, but we won't win Big 10 Titles with him.

He's a PG, not a SG
