Hoops 2009 MSU basketball recruiting is looking nice so far

Yeah, yeah, it's early. It's still really nice to have this many highly ranked recruits interested in MSU though. Izzo is kicking some serious ass on the recruiting trail. These are all top 40 recruits that are interested in MSU...

(#'s are national rankings)

#4 - Dexter Strickland
6-foot-3, 175-pound guard, New Jersey
5 star recruit per Rivals
MSU apparently is the early leader.

#8 - Jamil Wilson
6-7, power forward, Wisconsin
5 star recruit per Rivals
Offers from Purdue, Marquette, and Wisconsin

#16 - DeShonte Riley

6-11, center, Detroit Country Day
5 star recruit per Rivals
Has MSU, Kansas, and UM on his short list

#26 - Richard Howell

6-7 forward, Georgia
4 star recruit per Rivals
Has a list with 14 schools on it but only has "High" interest in MSU

# 31 - Stephen Van Treese
6-8 forward, Indiana
4 star recruit per Rivals
Has a list of 18 schools

#39 - Noel Johnson

6-7, guard, Georgia
4 star recruit per Rivals
MSU is one of 13 schools on his list

OK, this will buy him some time, but then he better start getting results.

Oh, wait. I forgot he did not take the football job. That is just my default response to FB recruiting rankings.

According to The Ohio State University Mathematics and Applied Sciences department, we will have 6-8 open scholarships.

Too bad that Beilien will swoop in and steal most of them away after their promising Sweet 16 run this season.

Let me explain something to you: Izzo's top three are the only top three that matter. If Izzo don't want 'em, I don't want 'em.

What is so impressive about that list is only 2 kids from the traditional 3 for MSU hoops (MI, IN, OH).

Even in down years for MI high school hoops we will still get good classes.

He is saying Strickland is #4 and the top 3 kids aren't interested. I believe it was sarcasm.

What's funnier? UM in the sweet 16 or Beilein getting a blue chip recruit? Luckily neither is a likely scenario.

I thought UM was going for the NIT championship this year with Beilien, not the NIT sweet 16! How quickly expectations change!

Well, Kelvin Torbert may have been a once-in-a-lifetime recruit for Coach Izzo.....I could be wrong.
