As you likely know after moving from Windows, the Mac developer community is very healthy. If 3rd party apps are allowed on the iPhone there will be an app for every possible want you could have.

I think that has more to do with the kind of people Apple's marketing attracts if that's what you're comparing.

New video of the iPhone keyboard. Apparently it learns as it goes and predicts upcoming letters. Target zones for likely upcoming letters get larger.
One example is the word "time". After T, I, and M are entered, since there are no words spelled "timR" or "timW", it shrinks the target zones for "R" and "W" and makes the tap zone for the letter "E" larger.

"Ellie, when we were kids, what was it you had again?"

Their physical keys actually grow larger in anticipation of the most likely letters that could come next in a word just like the iPhone does?

No, but the word(s) appears - ready to select.

Wow! Sounds like my old treo with half the features and 10 times the cost.
Why do so many idiots buy into Apple's BS hype. Creative Nomad was selling 4 GB MP3 players five years before the iPOD even existed.
Apple's business plan seems to be to rip off other people's inventions, mass-advertise their version and then rip off the lowest common denominator.

[quote=Trevor Barnes;3693987]Looks like AT&T/Cingular has boosted EDGE speeds today. It's part of a $50,000,000 upgrade of their network. Not 3G speeds, but a big improvement apparently.
207 kb/s
186 kb/s
176 kb/s
196 kb/s
290 kb/s
264 kb/s

etc.
That's not fast enough for someone to do basic browsing on a cell phone?!?...
/quote]
It would be if you were using a wap browser, and checking scores, but the second best selling point of the Iphone is its wonderful safari browser. (The first being the categorized voice mail). The "wonderful" speeds you are listing is about a quarter of what you can get from Sprints EVDO, Mind you I don't have that delightful browser the Iphone has, but Opera Mobile has been pretty solid.... and fast!

the first iphone will have flaws, general law of the geeks always applies, but fact is, iphone changes everything with it's design and usability, and no matter how much diehard IBM folk cry, that's how it is.

I sure there are bound to be flaws which will be handled via software updates. I am pretty sure Apple learned from the Newton experience. Released it early because of some stupid side bet.
Crap! A good Newton primer right on the MSU server. Newton MessagePad
