The IMAP push email from Yahoo sounds like it works very well. Mail is delivered within 5-20 seconds after it is received by Yahoo even if the iPhone is in standby. A small ring+vibration notifies you. Basically you could set up your Gmail to automatically copy/forward each received email to your Yahoo IMAP account and any email sent to Gmail would pop up instantly on your iPhone within seconds similiar to a Blackberry. Wonder if Gmail will ever incorporate IMAP.

Gmail uses "labels" and not folders. I guess it may be possible for gmail to advertise the labels as folder, but maybe not since the email really resides in the root folder.
ryan kennedy’s blog / Labels and IMAP are incompatible (right?)

» 500,000 iPhones Sold This Weekend
Quote:
|
“The bottom line: some analysts claimed that the iPhone launch would be a failure if Apple failed to sell 100,000 iPhones during the first weekend. Based upon the limited data we have, we believe that number was exceeded in just the first two to three hours. Blackfriars’ prediction is that Apple will sell 500,000 iPhones this weekend, and based upon limited sales rates reported, that number now looks quite achievable. The only question is whether the demand and iPhone supply is great enough that they might push past the million unit mark this weekend.”

Estimate puts iPhone sales at 500,000 in opening weekend - Jul. 2, 2007
Quote:
NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Opening weekend sales of iPhones may have reached 500,000, according to an analyst's estimate, as Apple's much anticipated product saw sales that lived up to and even exceeded its hype.
Piper Jaffray's Gene Munster released a report Sunday night estimating that the iPhone sales would reach that mark through the close of business Sunday. He had previously forecast first weekend sales of 200,000 of the device, which sells for either $499 or $599.
"Overall, Apple met strong demand over the weekend with adequate supply," he wrote in the report. "We were surprised by the rate at which Apple was able to sell the handsets, with 50 cashiers processing up to 1,000 iPhones an hour in some stores."

User Review?/
Does anyone here actually own one yet and could they fill us in on how it actually works? I am skeptical bout the battery life becase iPods struggle after a year or two and seeing how the iPhone has a built in iPod plus a bunch of oher things, it seems like they would really half to work on it.

If you missed the iPhone in the store, don't worry, eBay has you covered!
eBay - iphone items on eBay.com
You can pick up a 4GB iPhone from eBay for only $630 (+shipping)! Now, granted, you can buy an iPhone from AT&T or Apple today for $499 since they are plentifully available, but then you would miss the whole "eBay frenzy" experience!
Order yours today, operators are standing by!

One possible explanation for those eBay auctions are that the people bidding them up are in an area without an Apple store. I've read that ATT stores are sold out, but retail Apple stores have stock. The online Apple store is showing 2-4 weeks for shipping.
The other explanation is that those people are idiots.

AppleInsider | AmTech: iPhone to become fastest selling Apple product in history
Quote:
|
"Our sources indicate that iPhone will likely become the fastest selling product in Apple's history and not to mention likely among the fastest (if not the fastest) in consumer electronics," analyst Shaw Wu informed clients in a research report published Monday. "We estimate sales of about 250,000 units (on Thursday and Friday) in two days (up from our previous view of 50,000). The previous fastest seller was iPod nano, which sold about 1 million units in about 17 days meaning, about 59,000 units per day (beating the previous best of about 59,000 iPod nanos per day.)"

Getting a half a million new 2-year contracts in one weekend, half of which are new AT&T customers, must really suck for AT&T. For those doing the math, that's about $840,000,000 in service plan revenue for the next two years......all from just one single weekend of sales. That Apple, a billion dollar pain in the ass.

That is impressive for AT&T but Verizon customers are generally more sophisticated. Verizon is the mercedes benz of the cellphone industry and they offer a higher technological platform across the board.
Verizon customers expect a reliable high performance engine under the hood. Apple was only able to promise a flashy body with low performance engine. In car analogy, it is like Apple put a lamborghini body on a geo storm chasis with a geo metro engine.
Apple will benefit consumers across the board because it will spur a revolution in sophisticated gui's. We will all win because of Apple. But let's not act as though Apple's iphone is anything but an ipod with limited internet and voice capabilities. It's like putting a phone on the PSP and acting as though it is the best phone in the world.

Also...congratulations to the people of the United States. One weekend they proved to the world that the US economy is robust and at an all time high. 500,000 consumers going out and spending $600 a unit on a non-essential consumer electronic product is impressive.
We all need to pat ourselves on the back because the people made this happen.

Yep... completely sold out at AT&T stores, and they are "coming in everyday" at Apple Stores. Best shot at getting one right now is to check availability after 9 PM on Apple's Web site and then get over to an Apple Store when they open the following morning
I will hopefully be doing this tomorrow

I'm gonna have to disagree. The iPhone's specs are pretty damn impressive. I think it has a 624MHz processor, which is really powerful (my smartphone only has a 201MHz CPU).
While I don't think that the iPhone is going to be adopted by the masses, it still is a very nice phone.
