Course this one doesn't even exist out in the real world. In reality, it just means that Apple will put out their first patch with new features that much quicker.

Jesus Christ, are you serious? They found a full control exploit for this thing within three and a half weeks.

Anyone else remember a phone with as many sales and interest in the first 24 days? I love the work the hackers are doing so far. It just means even more features for users down the road.

Yeah, here's a new feature: you can remote control it over WiFi and you dont even have to own it!

In aclosed laboratory. There are probably a dozen active exploits for Internet Explorer out in the wild in any given month, and that's just the ones that they are able to find. This company found the issue and is working directly with Apple to fix it. I sure as hell trust Apple's security team more than Microsoft's.
Much ado about nothing really. It's far less risky using any PC browser to surf the web.

Trojans are doing that to millions of PC owners computers right now and their antivirus programs don't have a clue. Welcome to the real world.

Considering IT'S IN A CLOSED LABORATORY and not actually out in the real world, yes, it is harmless. I'd be willing to bet that not a single person that owns an iPhone on this board will have their iPhones exploited by this. Want to bet?
I will....oh yeah I will...

Probably good odds of that since judging from today's sales numbers there arent many people out there with iPhones.

You've yet to show me a single sales number yet. Still waiting for that. Even the NYT story you presented admitted that activation numbers may be affected by activation problems.

The number could also reflect the difficulty many iPhone customers reported experiencing when they tried to activate their phones during the first few days, analysts said.

You'd have to more than triple activation numbers to make opening weekend estimates. Do you think that will be the case? Wall Street doesn't - Apple's stock went down 6% today.

We're judging by Wall Street now? Care to look at what Wall Street has thought about the iPhone since it was announced? The same Wall Street that gave Apple gains of 135% during the last year?

Being given numbers that are triple reality will do that to you. AT&T's numbers are the first real ones. They're a way better indicator.

So you're predicting that AAPL will go down 130% in the next couple of days, I assume, to correct expectations for what surely will end up being a disastrous product for Apple.

By the way, those activation figures are for last quarter. That only includes 6pm Friday the 29th until midnight Sat the 30th... so 30 hours (1.25 days.) Not all that horrible actually considering it doesn't include Sunday, and all of the Apple and AT&T stores that were sold out in the next couple of days. It also doesn't include the new AT&T users trying to port their phones over from other carriers which sometimes took 1-2 days. Based on inventory left, the product certainly met Apple's own expectations.

The biggest sales burst was undoubtedly on the first evening so these numbers disappoint. I doubt day 3 came close to day 1 or 2. My guess is when you factor in activation problems and Sunday sales you might get to 250k, or about half of original estimates, tops.

Here's what we know for a fact. At one point shortly after the weekend, EVERY Apple Store was sold out and EVERY AT&T store was sold out. You literally couldn't buy one in the whole U.S. except on ebay for a day or so. That's not even counting online sales. Since Apple completely controls how many phones were released to stores, I find it hard for anyone to argue that Apple didn't meet their own expectations for initial sales. They literally sold every phone that they possibly could.

Sales numbers for the last quarter? Or including this quarter?
Wouldn't surprise me if it's lower than 500,000. "Analysts" were saying before launch that they needed to sell at least 100,000 initially to have a successful launch. They obviously did that and more. The big numbers came from analysts during that weekend. Apple clearly met their own expectations because they couldn't possibly have sold more than the inventory they had in stores.

Ummmm
Apple's iPhone Misses Sales Targets - News & Analysis - Technology - AAPL - DT
That was 7/3. The bar keeps getting set lower
