You are in the huge minority. The jog dials were a horrible design (well they were probably OK for the year 2000) - the track balls are so much easier to use.

I am glad hex wasn't on there, his response would be "What is Windows Mobile or Zune"?

it does take some getting used to. but you're right, stuff like predictive text has been around for a long time.

Really the only thing about the keyboard that I dislike is the magnifying glass thing to move the cursor. Its fine when typing URLs or in most emails, but its absolutely worthless when typing a post on tRCMB in landscape mode. I'd like the ability to use the magnifying glass and have some keyboard based cursor moving ability.

Yes. Sling is developing their iPhone app right now and has shown live working demos of it already. They showed it off during Apple’s Worldwide Developer Conference this month.

When we asked about the iPhone as a hardware platform, Sling’s executives were effusive with praise. They said the iPhone’s screen was large and of very good quality, and that its graphics and processor specs were the best of the current class of smartphones.

Based on the live demos of it so far, they're quite a bit further along than that. Q3 or Q4 of 2008 is when we'll most likely see it released. With the popularity of the iPhone, there's all sorts of incentive for them to get it released ASAP.

The sooner the better. I'll probably buy an iPhone the day it's released. I am skeptical we'll see it this year, though.

Agree. I've been patiently waiting for the Blackberry version. They keep saying that it "is coming", but we haven't seen anything.

Still some big time confusion on the iPhone pricing policies: AT&T iPhone 3G $199/$299 Pricing Policy - Mac Rumors
I think the bottomline for me I that I can get the subsidized price. While I do not technically have an iPhone anymore, I am still paying my monthly voice/iPhone data plan bill as if I did.

Does adding lines of service on AT&T qualify for subsidized pricing?

No friggin clue. Here are ATTs general rules - http://wireless.bestbuy.com/autocont...omain=bestbuy3
It's quite possible the rules for iPhone will be completely different.

I'm curious to see how they handle the corporate world. They have intentionally aimed his product at corporate customers - however, corporate customers don't visit AT&T/Apple stores to get their equipment.

Well me and my colleague will give you a report on July 11, we're going to switch over from Sprint that day - bye bye buggy treo! He is the person 'in charge' of the corporate AT&T account.
Admittedly for us, we have an AT&T store right across the street.

FYI, I asked a couple of people from AT&T, one a national rep, and one an employee at their Lansing store, when Lansing would be getting 3G coverage. They both said that they've been told late August of 2008.

No they won't. And no they can't - for the most part. Only a couple select people at a business can even authorize purchase to a corporate account.
Big mistake if Apple thinks this will work. That is why I gotta believe that it won't be mandatory for corporate accounts to do this.

I happen to like the iPhone a lot. The 3G version would have been my next phone if it wasn't for bundling a required data plan with each one (if that turns out to not be the case, then it's still on the table; otherwise, I'm waiting for the HTC Diamond).
I'd say for MOST people, the iPhone is probably the coolest and most usable phone ever made. It isn't for me (I want a lot more control over what I can do with my phone, more than the current iPhone provides), but it is a great phone.
And for the record, I think I've used a Zune maybe three times while at Target. I don't think I could tell you anything past the fact that it was at one point only available in brown, and has a button that should be a jog dial but isn't.

Let me remind everyone its a smartphone and it has a data plan just like your Blackberry or Palm has. Everyone is so "outraged" with the price of the plans, but its exactly what other smartphone users pay.

I have an ATT 8525 (re-branded HTC) that I happily use every day with no data plan. I don't need a data plan. Why am I being forced to get one if I want an iPhone?

8am Friday the 11th. Any suggestions on the time to get in line? The plans and necessary prep are available on the site tonight.

When do they open, 8am? I'd go at 8am. Or later, whenever you wake up. They likely won't be sold out, and even if they are, who cares? It's not like you need one on July 11th (unless you're in the crowd who wants to have a "unique" phone for a week while they stock back up).
I think I've settled on waiting for the Diamond and Touch Pro to come to AT&T, and then make a decision.
