Agree. Verizon is doing a much better job the last couple of years. They still lag behind AT&T for getting new phones out, but is probably about even with Sprint and are ahead of TMob.
They have one Samsung smartphone that looked kinda nice.

Verizon's new (7 years old???) phones:

|
I wouldn't use any of these phones. There are three types of phones worth buying:
1. iPhone.
2. Phone with Windows Mobile on it.
3. Blackberry.
If your phone isn't one of those, then your phones sucks. If your service provider doesn't carry lots of phones that fall into at least one of those categories, your service provider sucks.

I would agree. Some may argue for the Palm phones, but I'm not one of those. They still have 10 that fall in to your category, but the problem is that most were out with AT&T a year before availability with VZW.
The one that I kinda like the look of:

If your phone isn't one of those.....then it's a phone! Not a computer that you carry around with you everywhere. Most people don't need a phone that can do anything beyond check their e-mail, the web, play mp3s, play games, take pictures,.....and most importantly: call people. All of the phones I pictured can do all of those things.

Very debatable.

Dammit ... just like I was afraid: No TeleNav for the iPhone?
It looks like it is coming ( GPS: TeleNav Confirms iPhone In-Car Navigation App), but until then what does everyone use the GPS with? Google Maps?

Brew, that was a third-party app. I think the real innovation is how I got the app. Verizon was left in the dust with the App Store

Too bad to get songs on your phone will cost you $2+ per song.
With my phone from AT&T, I load my music collection onto a MicroSD card and listen to it.

I do the same with my LG env. It's no kind of hack either, you just drag and drop music files into the "music" folder on your microSD card. You've been able to put your own music on Verizon phones for a couple years now.
I just read that iPhone can't even download songs over 3G:
Quote:
No 3G music downloads for iPhone
According to Apple's iPhone 3G product page, the mobile version of the iTunes music store will remain accessible only over the phone's Wi-Fi connection, and will not take advantage of the new 3G capability. I guess it shouldn't come as a shock that the wireless version of iTunes (dubbed "iTunes Wi-Fi") should remain a strictly Wi-Fi service. Still, it does seem like Apple has missed an obvious opportunity to allow users more ways to purchase music.

I installed an RSS application that checks a few different sites and downloads podcasts when I hit a wi-fi zone. I also watch Simpsons episodes on it during lunch sometimes. Also, the other day I was playing Quake I.
I'm assuming this is all possible on the LG Envy as well? Not to be a dick or anything, but playing music is not even scratching the surface of what you should be able to do on your phone.

"Should be able to do" and "want to do" are completely different things. Most people, today, want to talk on their phones. When the vast majority of people want to watch the Simpsons (which I actually think you can do with Vcast Mobile TV), and play Quake on their tiny phones, I think Verizon will accommodate. Actually, Verizon has quite a few action games for their phones. I don't see Quake 1, but they have COD 4, Rainbow Six, etc: Verizon Wireless: Games: Overview

I have always like tMobile because I never have to talk to anyone that has ever worked there. I buy phones, unlocked, on ebay, slide the SIM card in and am in business. I currently use a K790i SE phone with an Opera mobile browser when needed.
Everything works well for me in the D.

Yeah...I think he made your point for you.
It's pretty funny watching these people get all religious over their phones. The dogma is rich.
The mobile device is about call quality, data rate and click rate. I checked out someone's new 3G iPhone today...they must have had a bad day because their data rate was slower than LG's. LG's click rate and call quality is still better.
I do applaud Apple for finally offering a sophisticated mobile device.

Disagree. Yes, that it important (and should basically be assumed at this point), but I rely on my phone for so many things before being a phone. I pass time by playing games on it. I listen to it all the way to/from work. At lunch I read the news on it. And I use the various productivity applications throughout the day.
On the list of things I regularly use my mobile device for, "phone" weighs in around 5-6.

You apply value to the ancillary items of the phone. As a consumer these items are value added features. That is your right.
The features you use are offered on just about all mobile devices. The LG phones offer the same capabilities. Apple is doing a great job of offering services and features that mobile device users are already used to.
Apple's new commercial says that the 3G iPhone is 2 times faster than the previous....that makes it 800 kbps....
that is extremely slow...wow! Is Apple lying in its commercial?

google maps out of the box. Used it a little yesterday on a trip downtown and it was great.
So far I've downloaded 3 other gps aware apps from the app store - a google app (basically all of googles products optimized for iPhone), a yellowpages app (finds whatever business you are looking for in your gps defined location), and a photo app (program called smugshot. It's a web based photo hosting service. You can geo-tag your photos). Nothing mind blowing yet, but still pretty cool. I've read that TomTom will be coming up with a turn by turn app.
So far I've come to understand I really underestimated the app store. In time there will be any app you need.
