I admit that I have only barely seen a buddy's VZW Navigator, but I'll take Gizmodo's word for it: "TeleNav already makes decent GPS nav software for Sprint and AT&T phones, way better than Verizon's VZ Navigator."

i've never done work like this, but from what i gather all songs have a unique audio fingerprint. shazam takes in the song you're playing, builds a fingerprint using some proprietary algorithm and compares that fingerprint to some database. after digging around a bit it looks like this place owns the fingerprinting technology that shazam uses.

So I got mine today ...
Early (very early) impressions:
- Activation was nothing short of a struggle. AT&T doesn't even know how to properly activate a corporate iPhone. And the process that was needed is not conducive at all to a corporate environment.
- I don't like the fact that your USB cable is also your power cord.

- My home key doesn't seem to work all the time. Not sure if I'm just not doing it right - seems straight forward. Ummm ... click the button. It doesn't always work though.
- Doesn't seem like the snappiest of things. Blackberry Curve was much more responsive.
- I can't believe it doesn't have a turn-by-turn app (like Telenav - comparable to a Garmin). Google Maps is decent for the "where the hell am i?", but I'd rather have the "how do I get to XXXX from here?"
- Relatively easy to connect to Exchange Server (just like Windows Mobile) but - Can't seem to find it ... after reading an email, how do I then mark it Unread?
- And how does anyone type an email on these things?
I'm sure there is more to come ...

Turn by turn is cool...i kept mine on when I was on the plane and the detail of it was incredible...I knew exactly where on the tarmac and on the runway I was at all times...the detail was outstanding.
As the plane was taking off I could see my icon racing down the runway and when I took off the icon was going over the city...really cool!

I had exactly the same problem, then we asked to port our Sprint numbers over and the CSR said we'd need to send our phones back and get new ones. Which is a little different from what the sales guy said. We'll probably hit the corporate AT&T store tomorrow to get to the bottom of the port issue.

My Home button is driving me nuts. I might have to call tomorrow - maybe my device is defective. Seriously, I have to hit the button 6-7 times to get it to work.

mine has a serious deep travel, which really doesnt fit with the rest of the iphone interface - i wasn't pushing it hard enough at first since i thought it would be "touchscreen" and not a button.

I don't think it is that ... co-worker has an ipod touch and he said that it should be easier to hit.

Enterprise Data plan question....
I need to sync with Exchange via direct push. Am I required to get the enterprise data plan or can I just fake it and get the regular plan and still sync w/Exchange?
If they do in fact require an enterprise plan for direct push, are they requiring it for their Mobile Me service? Cause that seems like an effing double standard.

I think the enterprise plan is only if you are a company (as an entity) buying it. Exchange support is in the iPhone software, I don't think it matters if your cell phone account is personal or not. The phone plans are AT&T, not Apple, and AT&T has nothing to do with Mobile Me.

Good question. I have he Enterprise Data plan so I can't tell you whether or not it would work with the standard one. According to AT&T, full Exchange with Push support and VPN access is provided by the Enterprise Data plan.
My guess is that Exchange would work with the standard one, but they may be able to block VPN.

... and an update on my iPhone hardware issue. I now have an appointment at an Apple store tomorrow to look at my device.
While the technology may be there to lure the business sector, obviously the processes in place to activate and repair phones is not. This will turn many businesses away.

no offense but should apple give you preferential treatment because 3 people in your company have iPhones?
There are a lot of people having issues due to demand right now

Got this in an e-mail from Tech Republic and thought you might find this interesting. No, I didn't search to see if it was already posted.
Cracking Open the Apple iPhone 3G
by Bill Detwiler | 07-11-08
iPhone 3G disassembled
Next Image »
Apple's iPhone 3G arrived on Friday with a bevy of new enterprise-ready features, including Exchange support, business-grade security, and third-party applications powered by an SDK. As with the first iPhone, we waited in line, bought our phone, signed an AT&T contract, and promptly began to crack open the case. Come along as we disassemble the Apple iPhone 3G.
Also, we always disassembled our gadgets with the intent to reassemble them. The iPhone 3G was no exception. It worked when we put it back together.

Cool, do you know how/where I can confirm that Exchange sync would work on a non-Enterprise plan? The idiots that work in the stores don't seem to really know the answer.

It works on the iPod touch?
Try calling Apple's sales dept.
It's in the software of the phone to set up your email account, I'm nearly positive that has nothing to do with what type of account you have with AT&T.
