Geez Trevor,

You're as big an iPhone geek as a friend of mine.

He keeps showing me mind blowing apps that leave my jaw on the floor.

Makes me want to drink another beer.

(I like the one that listens to about 5 seconds of music and can then identify who wrote, sang, and performed it.)

Although the latest google voice recog is nice. Ask for 'Italian restaraunts in Lansing, MI' and it comes back with a list and maps

I just looked up the Vaja case using their website. I can not tell if it protects all four courners should you drop the phone. This is where it is susceptable to the glass breaking. Is there a second cover over the top not clear from the photos?

Firmware Update Question

Guys, I'm on T-Moblie using with an iPhone. If you update firmware, will that lock the phone to ATT again?

It's a first generation iPhone.

update the software to 2.2, then use quickpwn to jailbreak and install the unlock

here's a 2.1 guide:

2.2.1 has been out since the end of January. Here's the fix list:

The release notes lists minor bug fixes and improvements in iPhone firmware 2.2.1. They are mentioned below:

• Improved general stability of Safari
• Fixed issue where some images saved from Mail do not display correctly in the Camera Roll

I haven't had any problems with it. It's already been jailbroken too, so there's no issues there either.

It's so nice to be able to come here for info.

It also downloaded something about the network protocals or something. Perhaps this is like updating the the network connectivity by pressing a series of buttons on my old Verizon phone?

Yeah. I did that as well.

Logo replacements, apparently, for AT&T's upcoming MicroCell service (at the time of this writing, the page is in maintenance mode). 2 images, light and dark versions of the image on the left (courtesy of MobileCrunch). Commenters at The iPhone Blog also confirm the revised connectivity image. Our own commenters note that Apple has added settings for the Mobily network (Saudi Arabia) and Etisalat (United Arab Emirates) in this update as well, which adds weight to the expected 2/15 launch of the iPhone in those countries.

Not needed on GSM phones.

Interesting chart ...

Big gains for Apple, but still WAY behind RIM.

Not sure if it's been discussed yet, but it looks like the Slingbox software is ready to drop any time now

How is the AT&T network working? If 3G isn't consistently available in downtown Chicago (which it has not been) I really have no use for it.

We just got the announcement, iPhone OS 3.0 is coming. Set your clocks, mark your calendars. It's going down March 17th. Apparently, we'll get a sneak peak at the new OS, as well as a look at a brand new version of the SDK. Exciting stuff indeed, and we'll be there live at 10am PST (1pm EST) with the liveblog. Apple's calling this an "advance preview of what we're building," so we're not expecting anything ready to go as of the 17th, but hopefully this will allow developers to start building toward future functionality (hey, how about some push notifications?), and presumably users won't have too many months to wait after that for the real deal.
iPhone OS 3.0 is coming, preview on March 17th

Just out of curiosity how does the average monthly bill for an iphone compare to other phones? I'd appreciate first hand info or a link.

Yep ... and I've been waiting.

But other than their "it is planned for Q1 '09", have you heard anything else?

Nope, I just saw the demo on the Sling website and got excited. After a year of speculation, I am happy to see this will soon be a reality.
