I've read that you can jailbreak it, whatever that means, and run Sling over 3G as well.

More on the potential that the compass adds to the iPhone...some pretty cool stuff...
The New iPhone Is a Pointing Device For The Real World: The Ground Will Speak. | Newswyrdy

Where Is The iPhone Compass Pointing?
To a big pot of gold.
Apple introduced the mouse to the computing world in 1983, and now it is time to introduce a new kind of mouse. With a magnetometer compass built in, the iPhone will become a pointing device for the real world.
Knowing the orientation and position of an iPhone is the secret sauce for augmented reality, geobrowsing and location-based ads. The latter has the potential for generating huge revenues if it is implemented the right way.
|
This is very cool...
Quote:
-Revolutionary combination of the camera, GPS, compass, orientation sensor, and Google maps
The camera will work with the GPS, compass, orientation sensor and Google maps to identify what building or location you have taken a picture of. We at first had difficulties believing this ability. However, such a “feature” is technically possible. If the next generation iPhone was to contain a compass then all of the components necessary to determine the actually plane in space for an image taken. The GPS would be used to determine the physical location of the device. The compass would be used to determine the direction the camera was facing. [...] According to our source, Apple will use this information to introduce several groundbreaking features. For example, if you were to take a picture of the Staples Center in Los Angeles, you will be provided with a prompt directing you to information about the building, address, and/or area. This information will include sources such as wikipedia. This seems like quite an amazing service; and a little hard to believe, however while the complexity of such a service may be unrealistic, such is actually feasible with the sensors onboard the next generation iPhone.

Before I bought my iPhone I never used iTunes... so maybe someone can help with this:
When you are "syncing" your iPhone - is there a way to only update the certain things you need?
For example - the last time I "synced" my phone (about a week ago, when I got the 3GS)... I was only trying to load my apps from before (do not want to lose Tris - as it is no longer available for download).
I checked the apps I wanted to sync - and the download started.
But then all of a sudden iTunes starts syncing my songs and everything.... which takes forever on my old busted ass Vaio computer... and I end up cancelling the sync which leaves me with 32 songs.
Is there a way to just plug in the phone and update what you want to update? I've tried "checking" the songs that I wanted to update... but then iTunes seems to erase everything I already have on my phone and then upload only those checked songs.... So basically: If I have 300 songs and want to add a new cd (12 songs for example) to get a total of 312.... do I have to go through the entire process of uploading all 312 again?

The sync looks at your iPhone's contents and then what you select to sync and uploads new stuff and deletes old stuff. It does not upload the entire HD every time. Therefore, whatever you select to sync that is different than what is currently on the iPhone will sync and all that was on the iPhone before you plug it in that is NOT selected to sync will disappear.
PS I don't own an iPhone but the above is how my iPod works and I imagine it is the same with an iPhone.

Battery Percentage
If you want to have the remaining battery percentage like this picture
Go to:
Settings -> General -> Usage -> Turn Battery Percentage to on

question
i'm trying to set up my outlook email... i'm able to get it to work if I put the "time to sync" setting to no limit (this takes up a lot of space and takes a while to load), but if i try to download only the past week or past 3 days i get an error saying that I can't connect to my server. any ideas?

Sold our launch day 2G 8GB iPhones on eBay for around $200 each. So basically it's like trading them in for a 16GB 3GS or being able to get a 32GB 3GS for $100. Not too shabby.

People who own driving cars are gonna be pissed when the new flying cars come out. They'll feel dumb for driving around on tires all their lives.

I for one am having fun and being very efficient for a full year. Can't wait to see what is next so long as there is no penalty to upgrading.
Trevor, I gave mine to a friend who is "trying it out." I doubt I will see the $400

The typewriter industry is still because of these pesky computers.
And don't get me started on the buggy/carriage industry. They were when the Taft administration didn't bail them out after the Model T put America on wheels in 1909.

I was asked to help the girlfriends friend this week. I spent thirty minutes asking how I could help. She just kept telling me she did not want to learn her new remote, she wants to Keep and use her VCR (not a typo) for ever. And she wants it to record two channels at the same time across the cable line up.
Comcast is making the channel lineup digital. She just kept saying she doesn't want to by anything different. When I explained nicely that new technologies are replacing the analogue lineup she just ripped the cable company and she thinks they are lying to her.
