The iPhone doesn't have a disk based HD, its Flash memory. Much less likely to fail.

There is.

AT&T Coverage Viewer

It's partner coverage, but roaming is free - so that doesn't matter.

iPhone data plan dubbed the iPlan? : The Boy Genius Report
Quote:
No, we're not kidding. Although iPlan might simply be used internally to refer to the Apple iPhone data plan, this streak of info came from a pretty high up source of ours, and it looks to be accurate. The iPhone data plan will be around $34.99-$44.99 and feature unlimited data, and either 2000 text messages, or unlimited text messages (we still have not confirmed which, but unlimited text messages would be awesome). For anyone trying to snuff the FedEx driver on his way in to deliver the iPhones, be prepared, because all FedEx drivers are said to be assigned, and delivering to stores in teams. Well, what if we raid the stockroom the night before, we'll end up with a bunch of iPhones right? Wrong. Apple's cleverness was revealed when they announced the 6:00PM release time to make sure stores would have just got shipments, and couldn't sell them earlier. Are we putting all our faith in FedEx? Everything appears so as FedEx will be shipped the iPhones on Tuesday, or Wednesday, and the iPhones will sit in FedEx local sort facilities and hubs until Friday, where they will then be delivered.

Off-topic Apple and AT&T announce three bundled iPhone service plans

AT&T and Apple released press releases this morning on the service plans for the iPhone.

These three bundle plans include
  • calling minutes
  • unlimited data (web browsing & email)
  • Visual Voicemail
  • 200 SMS
  • roll-over minutes
  • unlimited mobile-to-mobile calling.
$59.99 for 450 minutes
$79.99 for 900 minutes
$99.99 for 1,350 minute

Family plans are also available, though the press release makes no mention of what they are.

In addition, any standard AT&T service plan may be chosen, but apparently Visual Voicemail will only work though those plans above..

AT&T and Apple announce service plans, iTunes activation for iPhone - The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)

AT&T and Apple Announce Simple, Affordable Service Plans for iPhone

All in all, these are much cheaper than people imagined.

Yes. Unlimited web surfing, email, Youtube videos, etc.

If you haven't watched it yet and want to know how the iPhone works, I highly recommend checking out:

A lot of people that were on the fence are saying that now that they've seen the plans. They seem very reasonable and competitive. Nowhere near the $100 per month some people speculated when the iPhone was first announced.

One other thing that came out today...

"Minimum new 2-year wireless service plan and activation fee required to activate iPhone features, including iPod"

That means it's basically a brick if you don't activate it with AT&T.

ATT is going to get quite a few people to switch over. Good move by them.

Wow! Only $600 plus a mere $80/month. That's barely over $1,500 a year to talk on a music playing phone. What a steal.
