Oh, I suppose. An iPhone wouldn't be a bad thing for an internet business owner to have anyway.

I knew you would take the bait - Actually, a friend of mine who works for Apple say she's going to give me two free iPhones. But I'm planning on selling one of them because I just bought a new Sony Ericsson phone a few weeks ago and I love it.

I'll be curious to how much action you get for one.

There'll be a $499 model and a $599 model.
If you were impressed by those commercials, check out the demos of the iPhone's features on Apple's site:

I wonder if it can actually live up to the hype though...and why the hell is it only for AT&T users?

That is not specific to the iPhone. Providers pay extra to have the exclusive rights to new phones. It happens all the time.
Someone will figure out how to unlock it though so you can use it on another GSM network (TMobile, Centennial, etc.) Won't work on a CDMA network (Verizon, Sprint, Alltel).

I'd consider trying an iPhone when it comes out (I get a new phone about every 3-4 months - testing for my company ), but its not going to have the ability to tie to a corporate Exchange server is it?

Well...there IS Outlook 2001 for Mac.
Maybe you can have a POP3 client on there instead. Just won't be a native Exchange connection.

We have Entourage on our Macs ... connects natively to Exchange.
I need my phone natively connected too (ala Blackberry or Windows Mobile). Like most corporates, POP3 and IMAP are not enable on our Exchange server for good reason.

Out of the box I don't think it will. If 3rd parties are allowed to develop for it (there has been conflicting info on that), someone will work one up for sure.
EDIT: Good call on Entourage. Forgot about that.

AT&T has a 5 year exclusive deal in the U.S. I believe. From what I'm reading, there is no removable SIM card. Given that, how could people switch an iPhone to a different carrier?

Speaking of the iPhone and AT&T wireless.... Does anyone in the E.L/Lansing area have AT&T wireless? How is the reception, coverage area, etc.?

If you can't use it internationally, I can't have it.
Obviously then, it is only geared to the individual user ... not business user.

Reportedly, Apple went to Verizon first. In their deal with Apple, apparently AT&T gave up A LOT of power that cell phone companies aren't used to giving up to manufacturers. Verizon wasn't willing to do that so Apple moved on. I'll see if I can find a story.
