Mark Teixeira
Quote:
Rosenthal says the Yankees scouted the Rangers last week in regards to Eric Gagne and Akinori Otsuka. The Rangers expect Brian Cashman to have interest in Teixeira, and have been performing due diligence on Phil Hughes and other Yankee farmhands.
Rosenthal's main point: Hughes is not untouchable, but Teixeira could be traded to the Yankees without him involved. Maybe Jon Daniels surrenders two of his major trading chips in a single blockbuster, giving up Otsuka or Gagne plus Teixeira just to get Hughes. One would be hard-pressed to say that deal does not make the Yankees significantly better in 2007.
If Daniels is going to earn that contract extension, he needs to get another big-market team seriously involved. It would be fantastic to get Boston seriously engaged. The Tigers are another option.
|
Would the Tigers part with Miller or Maybin for Tex and Gagne? Miller and Maybin are easily the prospects that Hughes has become.

I highly doubt Texas would trade a combination of Otsuka, Gagne or Teixeira for a single prospect.
However a trade that did land Tex and a stud RP to the Tigers would put them in a position to win it all in 2007.
Let's say you are talking about sending MAYBIN, one player to Texas, for Tex and Gagne. Gagne will get another year or so added to his contract. You would have them for at least two years, maybe more if they were able to extend Tex as well.

I didn't say they were, you're just throwing a tantrum.
Their are plenty of high ceiling prospects in the Tigers system that can be used to secure additional bullpen help.
I'm not convinced that the 1B situation would prevent the Tigers from getting back to the WS.

They don't need any position players. They need a goddamned bullpen that can get somebody out.

Right... almost untouchable. Philly calls and offers Cole Hamels and Ryan Howard for Andrew Miller. There is a price for everyone, untouchable means you have to try REAL hard.

-Miller and Maybin are untouchable RIGHT NOW...Dombrowski has said this before
-Our offense is first in the majors in every major category, not an immediate concern
-Until Zumaya comes back and Rodney gets his head out of his ass, our bullpen is the main concern and that's where I would expect Dombrowski to make a move

I dont think Miller is going any where for a long time. Way too much upside with him. Maybin otoh is someone you would deal for the right person in the right situation.

Sure, and the Yankees are falling all over themselves to trade us A-Rod, Jeter & Clemens for Miller and Maybin.
Thanks for making my point for me. They are untouchable.

Maybin and Miller aren't going ANYWHERE IN THE NEAR FUTURE. Maybin will be in the OF by 2009. 1B is not the problem. We have plenty of power elsewhere and Casey has been hot with the lumber since May 1st. A combination of some other prospects to Texas maybe, but consider Maybe and Miller Coster and Connery, UNTOUCHABLE.

What could we get for Clevlen?
Could he get us a relief pitcher on his own?

Untouchable also means there has to be some realism in the proposal. You can throw out any trade (how unrealistic it may be) and then the untouchable becomes touchable.
