Thad Matta finishes up his class of 2010
tOSU just got a commitment from Cameron Wright, arguably the top player in Ohio (and a likely 5*) to go with the two 5*s he already has on board. He will now focus on the class of 2011 while the rest of th country is still struggling with 2008.

Taking 2010 kids right now is pretty dumb.

Yeah, you're right. If we had three 5*s that wanted to commit right now, should tell them shove it.

Izzo would and is recruiting '10 but I dont think he would extend an offer at this point. Not many coaches would.

Wait, scratch the part about the class being finished. Looks like tOSU is close to a verbal (could come tomorrow) from Trae Golden, a 5* combo guard from Georgia. The rest of the conference doesn't have a ******* chance.

These are all verbals so everything is subject to change.

 right back at ya.
You don't tell em to shove it, but you don't take a commitment, because if you have a brain you're not offering 15 yr olds.
A lot can happen in the next 1-2 yrs.

Its nice to get early commitments but this is too early IMO. Who knows if they've reached their ceiling. DaChairman has commented about things like this before and agrees. I tend to agree with pretty much everything he says so

tOSU is a revolving door for one and dones. Matta is a true mentor, developing student atheletes like no other.

I'm not really that scared of kids who can't even drive yet.

Seriously, who cares? Who even knows how good these guys might be in three years? Matta is rolling the dice. I'll take the Izzo approach.

How can they complete their 2010 class when they don't even know their salary cap for the '09 season yet?

1) we got Izzo who is a million times better coach
2) stars do not matter...it is the talent evaluation by the coach and how the kid fits into the program. Just cuz Matta is recruiting all these kids for blank years down the road and getting them to commit means nothing. It does not guarantee they will be good, a good team, or that the kids will fit into the program. 2010 commitments mean jack right now since so much can happen by then. I am sure at least a couple that commit that far away will not end up going to OSU. Izzo's teams will more often than not be better than O$U.

These kids will probably be one and done. Of course, OSU could pull someone's scolly if they wanted to. But going after only 5* is not the best thing for a team. Take a look at some of these kids getting drafted in NBA draft. After you get past the kids that would have went straight from high school because they are still raw, they dont always come from the powerhouse schools. I think it is more important to get kids that will stay 3 or 4 years, for the most part, and build team chemistry and experience. You also need kids that will fit your style of play. Having a team full of top talent that just wants to play 1-on-1 with everyone is not always good.

salary cap! i love it! osu just does not really impress me in basketball. yes, they had one hell of a team last year. but let's see how they do this year when they don't have oden. oden was a freak and it seems to me that no matter how many early commits you get you will never have a player like him. izzo runs a program for prolonged success. matta just wants to win now so he can be the next coach of the atlanta hawks.

And then given how the star system translates well to the college game, the 3 star Noopy could end up a All-American and perhaps leave his Junior or Senior year to become an NBA lottery pick.
You never really know with those 5 stars-turned-3 stars-turned lottery kids when they're only 15 years old.

I'm sure OSU will sign way more players to this class. Matta loves to give out more scholarships than he has available.
