At this point, Mike Sweeney would probably sign a minor league deal for the minimum ... with incentives.
I know he has been injured a bit the last couple of years, but he is a 5 time all star.
Worth an invite to spring training? Insurance on Sheffield?

I'm riding to raise awareness, to raise $$, but, at the end of the day, I'm riding so some day someone can say to my daughter...
"Ellie, when we were kids, what was it you had again?"
...and so I ride.

Played only 6 games there last year.
If healthy, he'd be one heck of a backup PH/1B/DH. That being said, he'd probably just cut in to Thames ABs (and I like Thames).
I'm just a little worried that Sheff is going to start acting like he is 39.

Quality guy...just not a quality pitcher, unfortunately.

You forgot the quote from Randy saying he is a professional hitter at the presser.

Please, he is approximately the same age as Jeter - came in the same year I believe. Yes, he has been hurt the last two seasons - but that is why he could be had with a minor league contract. It most likely wouldn't have worked out, but it is a high reward/low risk scenario.

It's only considered low risk until he gets his first back spasm in late July or early August. Sweeney's a great hitter when healthy. The problem is that he hasn't had a full season since 2001.
