Just admit the truth. I'll start it for you.....
"Todd Jones is a mediocre closer in darn near every way the success of a pitcher in such a position can be measured. Even though this is true, I'm a fan of the Tigers (and of his) and I cheer for the guy."
If you'd quit trying to come up with some factual basis for why Todd is "good" when such a basis doesn't exist, we could all move on..........

And he's not a "good closer" by any definition. He's mediocre (and I like to stay on point), but since he's a mediocre closer on our team, "fans" like to make more of that than they should. I'm just here to speak truth to power, my friend...........

I've been involved in many other Jones threads and have not seen a single post saying he's one of the best closer due to save or save %. They may have said that he is in the top 5 in saves in the league (true statement) or that he is good because of those stats, but thats it. And yes he is a good closer. Just because there are other better closers doesn't mean that Jones can't be considered a good closer. You can't seem to grasp that there can be 20 good closers in baseball since that means that 5 of them have to be in the bottom half at their position.

You wouldnt listen to em anyway. Its ok. like I said your opinion, my opinion. Pointless trying to convince me, and its pointless trying to convince you.
All i can say is that Ill take 38/44. Would i LIKE it to be 40/44 or 44/44. of course. But I will take 38/44.

I guess this debate over whether Jones is good or bad needs to include the other options Dombroski has/had prior to the contract extenion to Jones.
I think we all have to agree Jones was the top closer available to next year's Tigers. Not signing him would have left a huge hole, in an already depleated bull pen.

That's grade inflation, my friend. Jones is mediocre because he ranks in the middle of the pack in darn near every category compared to his peers when you measure performance and success.
Seriously, I argue this point only because some try to base it in fact, when no such basis exists. If Todd's your favorite player and you like the guy, great, go for it. But when you look at the facts, he's not "good" and he's not a Hall-of-Famer. He's mediocre and perhaps one of the best indicators of why saves are the most over-rated stat in the game, and why gaudy save totals will not get you near the Hall of Fame.........
