The woman's grandson.........they sure showed his picture a lot.....and kept it in frame for longer than normal. There was no reason for that.

To me that scene showed us his unique skills, his shady character, he isn't into drugs, and he can convert a hand vac into a ghost buster machine.

I think as others have pointed out that each one of these 4 had prior involvement in Dharma and each one brings some specialized skill that was developed with Dharma and is important to the mission.

Time travel
Speaking to the dead
The highly skilled pilot (to get through the turbulence and land on the island)
seeing the future
Namomi -- skilled in the military to get on the island

This was my first thought too. Not sure why Michael would do it (sure that will be addressed waayyyy down the road, and probably has something to do with Walt).

Also the credits so far have listed Michael everytime (so he is obviously a large part of the cast this season even if he hasnt been in it yet). In addition, there is a Michael centric episode coming up later in the season entitled "Meet Kevin Johnson"

If he just sailed away with Walt happily ever after, would there really be a need to bring him back as a central character?

Does anybody keep track of how many ads they cram in during the show? Is it the same as every other hour of prime time, because it sure seems like more.

The picture to me looked more like a young Eko, but that doesnt make any sense either so I think I am wrong on that.

Not sure who it was, but I did find it strange that they paused on the picture.

I think we haven't met this kid yet.

I have a feeling his murder will play into someone's backstory - including the drugs and wad of money found in his room.....

On the radio this morning, a caller pointed out that one of the crew from the helicopter was Charlotte Staples Lewis (C.S. Lewis). CS Lewis wrote Chronicles of Narnia which dealt in time travel. The other guy's last name was Faraday. There was a scientist named Faraday who dealt with electro-magnetism. Coincidence?

However, your theory is the most solid on the explanation of the polar bear. Although the bones were not fossilized. The bear looked like it wasnt very old.. so maybe it wasnt a question of when (time travel), but also where (teleportation).

Another logical question is that if Desmond was transported back to a moment in his life, wouldnt the same be true of the bear. When would the bear have ever been in the desert?

Once again, a lot more questions than answers... but what else is new?

What was with the metal box of masks and hazardous items? What sort of super bug were they expecting to find?

Maybe a superbug, but they didn't parachute in with that on. Maybe they feared Ben would use poison again.

So these newcomers are on the island to find, take or kill Ben? Here's the photo that Miles has. When was this taken, where was it taken and where did it come from?

note....he's not wearing his glasses

Bingo... I think these people are Dharma related and wanted to be prepared for the chemical attacks that wiped them off the island last time.

He also is not wearing a Dharma jumpsuit. This leads me to believe it was after the Dharma "cleansing."

It sure looks like it is off the island.

Either Ben makes occasional trips off the island, or we havent seen his entire backstory with Dharma/Richard's Natives.

I am leaning toward the prior since Ben was a nobody with Dharma.

Strange question - Does anyone else other than Ben wear glasses? I know Sawyer did when they first crashed (fused 2 pairs together), but we don't see him wearing them anymore.

If the island can cure people (Rose, Locke etc...) why does it not cure Ben? Ben's eyesight is bad. He developed a tumor on his spine while living on the island. The island seems to be rejecting Ben.

Critique of last night's ep from TVguide.com Ausiello:

My Big Problem(s) With This Week's Lost

LostDon't get me wrong, tonight's Lost was 31 flavors of awesome. Loved the introduction of the Four Rescueteers. Ditto the actors portraying them. And any episode that lets Juliet save the day is a keeper in my book. Unfortunately, in this instance, the negatives (two, to be exact) outweighed the positives — if for no other reason than they were so unnecessary. And those negatives were…

1) Did everyone suddenly forget that Charlie just croaked? I mean, Claire just learned of his death at the end of the previous episode, and there was nothing in her expression or demeanor to indicate that she had any lingering sorrow. Sure, she briefly broke down in the previous episode, but that's it? One good cry? That's all Charlie gets? At one point tonight I actually caught Claire smiling and giggling while cradling little Aaron! Either she never really give a crap about Charlie or she's in some serious Britney Spears-type denial. Either way, it left a really bad taste in my mouth. But not nearly as bad as this next one….

2) Early in the episode, Faraday drops a bombshell, telling Jack and Kate, "Rescuing you and your people? Can't really say it's our primary objective." Jack quickly follows that with a, "What is?", but before Faraday can answer, the moment is interrupted by Miles' call and Jack drops the entire line of questioning. Fine. I get that there are other things going on. But I don't get that it took Jack (and Kate) almost the entire episode to finally press him for an answer to the $1 million question. I mean, they had a freakin' gun to his head, but they never thought to ask, "Hey, by the way, what is your primary reason for being here?" Kind of an important question, you know? I get that the producers wanted to save that doozy of a reveal until the episode's closing minutes, but surely there had to have been a way to do it that didn't compromise the intelligence of two of the show's smartest characters.

Feel free to use the comments section below to agree or disagree with me. I have a hunch you'll do the latter, which is fine. I won't take it personally.

Reminds me of this exchange from last season.

Ben: You've been here eighty days, John. I've been here my entire life. So how is it that you think you know this island better than I do?

Locke: Because you're in a wheelchair... and I'm not.

I think Sawyer's glasses are just for reading.

Yet, as Sayid pointed out (and I thought seemed strange on the finale last season), the rest of the people coming from the boat aren't the least bit surprised to find survivors. Maybe Naomi was lying, but why would she pretend to think there were no survivors, while the other guys don't pretend? Remember, she never told the guys on the boat that they were survivors (only what Jack said, which led to a very un-surprised response). So why do these 4 know about survivors?

And for that matter, why do you send a mild mannered physicist, an anthropologist, and a pilot to go on a potentially dangerous mission to kill/capture someone that they deem very important? Bottom line, there is a LOT more to those 4 than we've seen.

Naomi didn't exactly believe the black guy (can't remember his name) when he said there were no survivors, so she suspected there might be for some reason. Probably because she is more involved with Dharma? than the 4 new arrivals.
Remember the scene where the helicopter pilot knew that Juliet was not on the plane. He had memorized the plane's roster and knew she wasn't on it. For him to memorize it, that tells us he's expected to find survivors. If he thought everyone was dead, there would be no reason to memorize anything.

I took the black guy in the suit statement that " there are no survivors" as him just repeating some official company position from which no one is allowed to verbally question even when they know it is untrue.
