First of all, I can all but guarantee Ferentz would be taking a pay cut to go to Michigan. He's making $2.86 million per at Iowa, and I don't see U-M going that high when Lloyd was at, what, $1.6?
Second, Ferentz is unhappy at Iowa. This has been a disasterous season on and off the field, his ridiculously high salary (that Iowa offered him, not the other way around) is a curse, and fans were booing their seniors on Senior Day (something that didn't sit well with him at all and could be the straw that breaks the camel's back).

So, he's going to take a million dollar pay cut to go to scUm because there was booing on senior day, and he feels cursed by $2,800,000 per year?

If you want some good reading, check out the comments on this blog:
mgoblog: Say Hello To My Little Ferentz
Almost 100% anti-Ferentz. umers think they're too good for him, which is fine with me, b/c he's the first name I've heard that actually worries me a little.

I seriously don't see the appeal in Ferentz. Yes, he had three 10-win seasons in a row, but he followed that up with 3 mediocre seasons. It seems to me like he's lost his footing in the coaching realm.

Ferentz
The man can't even beat ISU regularly. Welcome back to prominence, MSU.

Getting a little ahead of ourselves are we? How did State do against Ferentz this year?

Sadly, I don't believe it is.
It should be though! (And check out next Spring's SHU Sports Journal for a comment written by yours truly!)
On a serious note, this coaching search is already driving me insane. So many rumors and freak outs. I highly doubt Ferentz has already been offered, but it does look like he will be considered.
I don't think he is a horrible choice, but if he's hired this early I would be incredibly pissed off at Martin.

My main point is that we always hear this crap when we hire a new coach, how come um doesn't?

You think you're going insane? Imagine what we went through when names like Charlie Bagget started coming up?

Yeah, I gotta admit I laughed at you guys during the JLS and Dantonio searches. You guys seemed to be acting ridiculous.
I now understand

Don't you mean Coleman? A Ferentz hire would have her fingerprints all over it.

According to two mutually exclusive media contacts I have, he has.

That's b/c we hired BW, then offered Marvin Lewis the next time around. We sure heard it both of those times.
