Went with the fiancee tonight. We both loved it. Great dialogue and some really nice performances. Far superior to LMS.

Absolutely a great little film...and easily one of the best of the year. Just because it's not french new wave and stuff happens instead of just looking pretty doesn't mean it isn't worthy of praise kurt. I'm a fan of the Criterion Collection and own a good number of films they've released....but some of what passes for brilliance is really just not very good. Or should I say, boring and pointless.
Case in point: tried watching L'Eclisse the other night, and just couldn't finish it. nothing happens. looked pretty for sure, and I appreciate Antonioni's vision...but god that was an interiminably boring flick.
Give me Mellville and Alain Delon any day though

Of course it was. L'Eclisse is one of the most truly boring movies I've ever watched. It isn't just that it's slow, it's that NOTHING HAPPENS. The movie is included in Criterion because it is part of an informal trilogy along with l'Avventura (a truly great fil) and La Notte. As a stand alone flic, I don't think it is very good.
I think that my opinions on movies have been misunderstood. Yes, I tend to think that most of the truly GREAT films ever made were realsed outside of the US, oten before the 1980's. That said, I don't expect a truly great movie to come out every weekend, which is why flicks like No Country for Old Men are fine fare that I am not opposed to see. Juno, which I did in fact see a few days ago, was not a good movie. The writing was contrived, the acting was over the top, and the whole thing was so wrapped in faux quirkiness it made me want to gag.

Saw it Friday. It's a good film, but IMHO it has a pretty big flaw in that the girl is basically a snarky 30 year old guy channeled into a 16 year old chick. Not very believable. She also uses pop culture references that are more appropriate for a 26 year old than a 16 year old. For example, when she goes into labor she says "Thundercats go!" Seriously...what 16 year old girl would use a pop culture reference from the mid 80s? It reminded me just a bit too much of one of those shows where they have little kids say really clever things that they would never say.

I saw it this weekend and I enjoyed it but that doesn't really make it a great movie and I would be terribly disappointed if it is even nominated for an Academy Award as I have seen much better movies this year. The real problem, as others have mentioned already, was that Diable Cody (the writer) used her own voice that she uses for blog posts and everything else for the main character. This kind of makes me worry that everything she writes is going to sound the exact same and there is no reason to send accolades someone's way for being kind of good at one thing and one thing only.

Juno was great.
Check out the writer. I not only want to hear more from her, but I'd like to see more of her, too.

just saw it, and we liked it, quite a bit....
I didn't mind the innapropriate dating of the comments the girl used.... I would imagine that you need to blieve that there ae kids like that who can be knowledgable of different time periods.... I can do that and relax and enjoy the movie....
sucks for all of you that are so "knowledgable" about the art of film that you can't enjoy it..... I guess ignorance is bliss....
but you know what pissses me off, is that you can come into a thread and basically insult every person here who liked it. get a friggen life and keep yer yap shut.... no normal person gives a **** about your expert opinion.....

Very good movie. Saw it over break.
Too bad Michael Cera and Jason Bateman didn't really have anything together.

movie was FANTASTIC!!!
I loved the lines about being with someone forever that "really gets you" and love you "JUST FOR YOU"...

Reviewing this thread from the beginning, I can see where the movie snobs are coming from. Good movie, but it felt like someone bit into Napoleon Dynamite, Superbad, The Royal Tannenbaums, Little Miss Sunshine, Ghost World, and spit it out as Juno.
I enjoyed it, but it wasn't a GREAT movie for others to be measured against.

I didn't know I hated the music of Belle & Sebastian until I watched this movie. Good movie. Bad soundtrack.

I thought the soundtrack was pretty damn good. It's not something I would listen to all the time, but it's a nice change-of-pace.

Saw it yesterday....
Loved it. Michael Cera is such a bad ass. His scenes are just so perfect...I can't explain it. Loved hearing the Velvet Undergrounds..."I'm STicking WIth You"...a really cute song from a not so cute band, although a great one.
Jennifer Garner was wonderful in this as well.
