Off-topic Great new movie you all need to see - JUNO

This film is outstanding in so many ways. It is directed by Jason Reitman, who did THANK YOU FOR SMOKING. It's about a teenage girl who has an unexpected pregnancy and how she is dealing with it. It stars Ellen Page, Michael Cera, Jason Bateman, Jennifer Garner, Allison Janney and JK Simmons. It's hysterical, touching and so damn great.

Here is the trailer:
Apple - Trailers - Juno - Trailer

Here is a list of free advance screenings:
Juno Free Advance Screenings Nationwide « FirstShowing.net

The writer of the film was at the screening I caught tonight and she was great. It was her first film and I really cannot remember a better debut screenplay in a long time. Her name is Diablo Cody and I hope we hear so much more from her.

i was underwhelmed. it was cute, but a smart talking young protagonist does not a good film make. dialogue was interesting but mostly unbelievable, acting was great and charming (which held the movie together), the story was flawed and the direction seemed very textbook.

it had it's moments but i would prefer to watch ghost world again. although i'd say it's worth the price of a matinee.

I have a sense that Juno is not going
to be everyone's favorite, but . . .

I saw the movie over the weekend
and my first reaction was nothing
less than awesome. Taking this
story line and turning it into a flat
out comedy was brilliant. It could
have so easily been an after school
special about the troubles of teenage
sex ruining a young girls life.

Excellent casting overall, but the
girl who plays Juno stole the show.

Great screenplay with funny "slang"
dialogue, not exactly current, but
captured the high school genre well.

Awesome.

I want to see this flick, but I've only found one theater playing it so far. I'm too lazy to go out of my way to see it. I can wait for DVD.

Ozy, you have a taste for the type of films I liked about five years ago.You will soon grow out of watching movies with "Oscar buzz" and films labeled as "quirky comedies" and start watching pictures that are actually GOOD.

It's alright tough. This is allpart of your natural progression. As they say, you can't run before you walk...

If you want a good start, almost everything that the Criterion Collection releases that predates 1985 is fantastic.

I saw it too... awesome movie... hilarious... only out in 40 theaters this past weekend... will continue to expand... it is trying the same type of release that worked so well for Little Miss Sunshine... hoping word of mouth will help it a lot... this thread is an example of what they were hoping for... It was hilarious! I have to see it again b/c I missed a lot of it from laughing too hard...

First of all, Thank You for Smoking was horrible. Should we consider before seeing Juno?

I like "indy" movies, but after seeing most of them they're mostly all overrated. Case in point was "Squid and the Whale" which was just dumb.

You and I will never see eye to eye on movies then.

Enjoy the next Rob Schneider movie.

I have a standing order to support all of the former-Arrested Development actors, so i figure you really can't go wrong with a movie that hosts Jason Bateman and Michael Cera.

I could probably give you about 40 from two directors alone, both from the same country, which would all be worth your time.

There is a reason some movies dont just fade from the collective memories of moviegoers, a fate that is likely reserved for Juno, Lars and the Rea Girl, and a number of other indie comedies which will invariably be hyped no end on this forum.

Historically, yes. These movies will not be remembered. Nor should they. But what's to say they aren't worth a watch? Honestly, there are only a few from teh Criterion collection that I actually bought, because I still like an entertainment value. The others in my collection are movies like American Psycho, Snatch, even Fight Club...pop movies that make you think and laugh and enjoy yourself, contain some artistry, but don't consist of 20 minute long shots and monologues.

Side Note: I watched I am Cuba last week. Amazing cinematography (which is my thing) and film color expiramentation (funny because it's B&W) but the most boring thing I've ever seen.
