Well, I don't have anything to say, they've done the best they could. They really have, the best they could. They can't expect to win em all.

terrible hire...getting a guy with the spread offense just proves they had no strategy for this search. first they went for les miles who is a michigan man with to another guy from wv who doesn't even match uofm's identity.
bill martin is the worst atheltic ad ever.

Long term um doesn't change much, though they're still a good team. I said bad hire, but only meaning that RR isn't the guy to get um to in the NC picture.
I also really wonder about um hiring a spread coach. It makes sense for NU because they can't get the athletes to play smashmouth BT football and they need the spread to compete. Look at PU, after initial success with the spread they've plateaued. It worked against weak teams at MSU, but um, OSU, PSU & Wisconsin really didn't have much of a problem with it.
WVU was a good team in a week conference. Losing to a very average Pitt team with a NC game shot at stake, at WVU wouldn't instill a lot of confidence in me if I were a wolvie.

OSU sure seemed to have a problem with Florida last year.

Good for the Big Ten (National Reputation of the Conference)
Good for MSU by default

I'm indifferent. I know that they'll have some success next year simply due to the Big Ten not seeing their system on a regular basis, but I don't think that it'll garner long term success. I'm curious whether or not his inexperience with the Big Ten will hurt him as it did JLS.

Honeslty, all depends if he can recruit and coach a defense. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

I'm most interested in how they are going to be defensively. RR runs a gimick defense and it just doesn't seem to fit the Big Ten. Any chance he keeps Ron English on his staff, or will he bring everyone with him?

It is a solid hire, the guy knows how to win. There may be a transition period, but I don't think they were going to be that great next year anyway.

They had to close the deal on RR. The powers that be could not accept another rejection. Clearly a guy who likes to look around for better opportunities but seems like most fall into that category these days. It will be interesting to see who and how well he recruits the midwest.

I kind of get that impression too. On the surface, Mich gets a hot name, but it seems like a mismatch. RR leaves his alma mater where he's been successful and was one home win away from playing for the NC. UM has a long tradition of playing physical, ball control football and hires a coach who runs the spread. I find it hard to believe this is what Mich was looking for. I think the administration was tired of the embarassment and decided to throw a wheelbarrow of money at a name coach to get the alumni, fans and donors off their backs.

Good hire/bad hire for who?
For MSU fans, I think this is a good hire.
