Sneaking out of Morgantown
The Wizard of Odds
Check out these images of Rich Rodriguez and his party (including wife Rita) slipping out of Morgantown early last Friday for a flight to Toledo and his thought-to-be-secret meeting with Michigan president Mary Sue Coleman and athletic director Bill Martin. Our friends at Losers With Socks have more images, somewhat poor in quality because they were shot with a cameraphone.
As you know by now, Rodriguez is Michigan's new coach, and everybody in West Virginia is pissed off, starting with Governor Joe Manchin, a former Mountaineer quarterback who has his own parking spot outside of Mountaineer Field.
And check out this newly created MySpace page for the "Traitor."
This breakup had the ugliest of endings. According to Mitch Vingle of the Charleston Gazette, West Virginia officials first received word of Rodriguez's departure when graduate assistant Mike Parrish handed athletic director Ed Pastilong a short letter of resignation from the coach. A grad assistant. Quite manly of you, Rich!
In addition, Rodriguez told quarterback recruit Terrell Pryor about his decision before he told anybody at West Virginia. Pryor, of course, has just added Michigan to his list of schools.

And FYI....Big M.....the pictures are of him leaving for his "secret" meeting with UM in Toledo not of him leaving yesterday to go to Ann Arbor for the news conference.

I sort of agree with you.
I guess my measure is by loyalty to a school and his players. I can't ever picture LLoyd doing what Dick Rod just did.

I don't think it's a big deal. Saban pulled that crap when he left us and he still won a national title.

We all rememer when $aban walked out on us in the middle of the season. I certainly have no interest in WV football, but what this guy did to his players and their program stinks, just like what $aban did to MSU. I personally think he set our program back eight years. And anyone who thinks his quitting two weeks before a BCS bowl doesn't hinder WV's chances of winning is kidding themselves.
The NCAA ought to institute some policy preventing coaches from jumping ship like this - or at least preventing programs like um and LSU from bribing coaches away from teams whose seasons are not yet over. It is unfair to the kids who were recruited by and played for their coach..

That's one of my best friends, I talked to him Saturday night and he really didn't believe Rod to leave. Just talked to him last night and he said most of the assistants are coming to um with him.

Actually, $aban met with his team to tell them. I think his departure was suspected and rumored, but was not confirmed until he told them to their faces.
As far as RR's departure style, this fits in perfectly with Lloyd's lame sore-loser hand shakes.

He said the head coaching job at WVU will probably go to Terry Bowden or one of the assistants so besides the assistant getting promoted, most of them will be gone.
Oh, and the WVU women's soccer coached interviewed at um also. Add another to the list!!

Before or after the bowl game?
I wonder if there is an airplane sitting on a runway in Morgantown waiting for all the assistants to get on board.

My friend who was the Grad Asisstant said he is staying at WVU until after the Fiesta Bowl and then he's going to Ann Arbor. He thinks a majority of the staff will stay until that game and then decide.

Let's start with: you don't profess your love for your Alma Mater and then flirt with the Bama job - only to use it get big $$ and a contract extension from your employer, profess how happy you are to stay at the place you love - and then sneak out to meet with the scUM brass. Leaving your AD and University President in the dark, and then having a grad assistant deliver your resignation.
Classy!!!!!
Congrats Big M - you have your very own Petrino - $aban clown to deal with.

News Flash boys:
scUM and their legion of band wagon, mullett wearing fans couldn't care LESS what kind of GUY he is. Just about wins and losses. Same as it's always been. He'll be no better or worse than Carr IMO. He won't beat OSU and top level teams with that offense. Not much of a defensive scheme either. They paid MILLIONS for a guy that will deliver about the same as English would have delivered: 8-10 wins per year. Not bad, but not LES MILES like either.

Will be interesting to see how the Det press deals with the annual "where is RR interviewing" rumors. That hurt MSU recruiting as much as anything over the years.

You do realize that we grabbed Dantonio before Cincy's season was done right?
