Nowhere in there do you mention about how in the near future, downloading of HD content will begin to take off, and will eventually supplant purchasing and renting physical media. You simply said I was dense for thinking that people would be interested in that.
So you're trying to prove to me that you have a lot of foresight on this issue, when only ten posts back, you said I was "dense" for thinking what you apparently also are thinking...supposedly.
Is it safe for me to assume you're just going to come back and say, "What I meant was that it would be like that SOMEDAY..."? I hope not, because that's not what you originally said.

Please don't take my quotes out of context and bend them to your liking in an attempt to discredit me. I made that statement in response to you making mention of giving consumers a box with internet and an HDD that could connect to the internet RIGHT NOW. I came back and said most consumers would not want that RIGHT NOW because they do not have BB. You made a comment about market penitration and consumers not having a reason to need it and that quote is how I responded. No where did I ever say downloadable movies would never happen, I merely said they weren't really a feasible option RIGHT NOW. Obviously in the future more lines will be laid and BB will drop in price and it will become more widespread. Right now it is not.
I do recall saying the quote below. It would seem that your reading comprehension could use a little work. You are getting discussions about the present and discussions about the future mixed up. I suggest you go back and read them again

Personally I would love to d/l movies straight to a set top box on my TV but it's just not going to be in the mainstream anytime soon. Disc format will be around for a while and if you want to watch HD movies at home you might want to invest in a Blu-Ray player.

No, you actually didn't say anything like that. You said that lots of people don't have broadband, they wouldn't like to download content, and I was dense for thinking they would. You didn't make any mention of a time between here and there where they would, just that they wouldn't. Here is exactly what you said, a direct quote from your initial post:
Quote:
|
I'm sorry but a lot of people don't have BB because they CAN'T get it. Not everyone lives in a city or suburb. Look to the plains region of the country for examples. I'm sure a lot of people don't have BB because they don't need it but are these people going to pay upwards of $30-40 more per month just to be able to download movies on their TVs? Are you seriously that dense? Players = one time expense + movies. Downloadable movies = TV box with capabilities + BB internet monthly fee + movies. Try pitching that to DVD owners without BB...
|
Please point out to me where you say that they aren't a feasible option "RIGHT NOW" in that initial post. I do also remember when you back-peddled in a later post, agreeing that it would happen someday, but that's not what originally led to my saying you had no foresight, now is it?
Additionally, I disagree with the entire premise you're trying to support here, because I think if such a box existed today, at certain pricing structures, it would capture 50% of the content distribution within five years, growing exponentially with each year.

Present tense was implied for my response when you spoke in present tense in this quote:
Quote:
|
If you could buy a box right now, that plugs into your TV and connects to the Internet wirelessly, which cost $99, let you hit a site where you could read reviews and watch trailers, and either rent ($1) or buy ($5) the SD version of a movie, or rent ($2) or buy ($10) the HD version of a movie, the physical disc industry would collapse within six months.
|
Both of my quotes were in direct response to that paragraph right there. You were obviously speaking in present tense based on the bolded words. I'm sorry you have the reading comprehension of a 3rd grader, please consider what I suggested in my last response.
Why are you trying so hard to discredit me anyway? It's not like I'm trying to prove some point here? I'm just giving my opinion on a topic. It doesn't change the fact that Blu-Ray will win the format war and that you had enough "foresight" to buy an HD-DVD player 2 weeks ago...
/puts on hexydes hat

At first you said in 6 months the physical disc industry would collapse and now you say that in 5 years it would still have 50% of the distribution. What gives?
/takes hexydes hat off
I thought that would be fun but I just ended up feeling like an idiot......

Dude, it's right in your first post. You made no mention that it would catch on, just that I was dense for suggesting it would. If you disagree, then whatever.

Honestly, I don't care enough about you to try and discredit you. I don't even know you. I'm just killing time on a messageboard. I'm sorry if you're taking it more personal than that.

Obviously the six-month one is just for dramatics, sorry that doesn't come over well on a messageboard. It's hard for any industry to truly "collapse" in six months, obviously. That's neither here nor there though, you still said, in your first post, that it would never take off because of lack of broadband adoption, which is all I was saying.

The fact that you actually defended that last quote I picked out is hilarious. I'm done with this thread as you are just trying to talk in circles.
Bottom line is Blu-Ray will win and HD-DVD players will be obsolete (sorry for your loss ).
LOCK IT!
P.S.

Universal HD DVD exclusivity contract has expired, sits non-renewed - Engadget
Quote:
Universal HD DVD exclusivity contract has expired, sits non-renewed
More news from the format war today, and it isn't good for the red camp. Daily Variety has confirmed that Universal's agreement to stick with HD DVD has ended and has not been renewed. Additionally, Paramount has an escape clause in its contract that can be exercised following Warner's departure from the (now dwindling) HD DVD ranks. The article highlights various ongoing commitments both companies have to the format, but we've heard these kind of promises before from studios. It's feeling like a party where everyone leaves at once; nobody wants to be the first out the door, but everyone's looking in that direction.

I'm not sure how many times this information can be re-hashed. Engadget's traffic must be down for the month, need to stir things up a bit.

It'd be churlish of us highbrow T3 types to hop on a plane all the way to Vegas for CES and not drop in on the Adult Entertainment Expo, which just so happens to be going down in the same building.
You can stop muttering 'yeah, whatever'.

Okay, Warner and New Line's switch to the blue corner could help, but without doubt a spot of 'adult entertainment' could see this be Blu-Ray's year.
Looks like the term 'blue on blu' is about to get another meaning...
