**** Ed Hightower.
Justice would be if Bo Ryan lost control of his car on his way to the arena one night, hit and maimed Hightower and then went to jail for it!

Per my previous post... Hightower runs the consortium that arranges for refs for games all over the country. Conferences call the consortium and sign a contract with them to supply refs at the dates and times needed. The consortium assigns refs and flys them to the games. The refs pay part of their fees to the consortium for it's services.
They do all of the games for all of the major conferences.
So Ed isn't going anywhere soon because he's making millions doing this.
Any yes, refs make over 100K doing games every night during the season.
Think of the power they have over college bball and there is NO, NADA NONE, NOTHING about transparency in any of these arrangements.
The NCAA needs to step in and keep stats on refs and make them available to the public.

A list of good referees would be easier to make - and quite short.

Ted Hillary had/has his own plane to get to games. These guys make some serious cabbage. My dad used to work with Hillary, so this is how I know- and says Hillary is a good man.
Hightower on the other hand, needs to be paid for each correct call and docked for every blown call. He just might break even.

I've tried to teach my sons to watch the portion of the pre-game where (right about the time everyone's lining up for the tip-off) the talking heads quickly announce who the refs are. If 2 or more first names rhyme with "Dead" (you know; Ted, Ed, etc.), we just turn the TV off and go do something constructive--or at least less frustrating.

He might show up to watch but he's not officiating any SIU-E games. He's Vice Chair of their Board of Trustees...

He might have some Illinois bias since he's from there, but seriously, Ed Hightower is one of the better refs out there.
He's got a master's and specialist degree from SIU and a doctorate from St. Louis.

So he's not the worst in the country. Big deal. He's overrated and he's an ego freak. When I watched as he spent five minutes verifying whether a shot was taken before the clock expired, and he then leaped into his act signalling it was good, but FAILED to see what everyone else saw - that the shooter's foot was about ten inches over the trey line - I gave up on this donkey. He called it a good three pointer. What an incompetent ass. It's all about ED as opposed to getting the calls correct. He must be blowing the selection people.

All the Ed Hightower bashing on here is ridiculous since there are SO many other refs that don't even come close to being as good as Ed Hightower. Does he make mistakes? YES absolutely he does, who doesn't? At least his mistakes are very few when compared to other referees and he calls a pretty consistent game for the most part. Watch a MSU game when Ed Hightower is working it and see how many times Izzo complains about one of his call and then watch another game with a different ref (like last night for instance), you'll see that for the most part Izzo is happy with Hightower or Welmer, but can get quite frustrated with the other refs like Jim Burr or the crew that worked last night.
