I hope so too. But everyone has stereotypes and biases. If all employers look at "the individual" and their accomplishments, then there wouldn't be a need for affirmative action, for example. Race is a stereotype, and now MSU is generating its own stereotype of rioting and drunk, bumbling idiots.

They wanted it, and now you're going to get people who bitch and say that somehow the students were the victims.

Read my post again. I didn't say it will impact you getting a job. It's something that gets asked, people make snide comments about, and like I said before it makes us look bad.
How many times have you've heard after we've beaten a team, why don't you go burn some couches and riot? How many times have you heard people from other schools yell smoke green snort white?
It's stupid **** like this that tarnishes the reputation of the school and it's students and alumni.

No. Not at all. Read my thread. You're assuming because that's happened in the past, but that wasn't the case at all last night.

This is where I wish the event had a helicopter over it the whole time taking footage. I want to see how this developed once it stearted going down. I joked about it in the real-time thread, but I wanted to see how this was developing play-by-play. Like how many were involved in cornering the officers, where the extra officers came from, etc etc.

Michigan students and fans and thats about it. People at places outside of Michigan have no idea. They do not know our Go Green and Go White chant. I see them do the same things with Ohio State students who have burned a few couches.

oo, I agree with you, but you really can't take those ppl too seriously. I mean, I always sterotype UM grads as arrogant *******s. However, I'm not going to simply think of some individual grad that way just because they graduated from UM.

You placed yourself directly in a situation where people were getting tear gas shot at them. Imagine if they whipped out the rubber bullets and started firing them into the crowd.
There's a saying that nothing good happens after 2AM. The statement in E.L. should be nothing good ever happens when hanging out with 3,000 drunk people in Cedar Village. Previous history has already proven what was going to happen last night. To think any differently truly shows just how naive you guys are.

No I read your thread, I agree with you. I was reading facebook statuses of people blaming the police for what happened and it makes me sick.
If people wanted to have a great time and get teargassed, then thumbs up. But if anyone who was out there long past the warnings and the first bottle being thrown, they have zero place to act like victims. Get ready for the State News letters from "Political Science Senior" Jerry LongPurpleHair to lambaste the police department for their "criminal" actions. Those are the people that can go **** themselves.

I've encountered it from others than Michigan fans. This has become a NATIONAL reputation for us. If this was the first time it happened do you think it would have made CNN? No, it would have been an aberation.
But it's news because it's MSU and it happened again!

Can't the City of East Lansing write some specific laws for complexes like Cedar Village?
Like a card keyed entry system to keep the complex from being a gathering place and video tape entry cameras to tie the residents to the law breakers who get in?

I don't think they'd want to make that kind of investment if they're going to tear the place down.

If it speeds the tear down and you can enforce new rules so they can't build Cedar Village redux it would accomplish getting rid of poor landlords whose complex has cost MSU and the city its good reputation several times.

I think they're hoping that what just happened will have an impact on getting it going.

Curious, are the cops going to get on facebook, find the people who organized the event, and charge them with inciting a riot?
Thoughts?

you want a party of 3k? have it from 10-7pm. then go to house parties and the bars. you will never be able to have a night party in EL bc "somehow" **** ALWAYS goes down at 1-2am

WHOA - call down a bit. I NEVER said it was acceptable for these kids to do what they did. I was not a part of it, and was actually nowhere near it. I never said it was the police's fault, either - in fact, I stated on multiple occasions that it is absolutely the fault of the students.
All I said was the university and the ELPD should have handled the preparation better because I know for a fact that all of their pre-Cedar Fest negative propaganda just made people angry and made them want to come out and mess with the police. Again, I'm not saying AT ALL that this was justified, but if the police could've taken a more positive approach last week and thereby prevented some of the pent-up anger going into last night, things might not have been so bad.

I doubt it because the facebook event had nothing about rioting on it (except maybe on the wall - but the creators did not intend, or at least didn't specifically say that they intended, for this to become a riot). It was just about a large-scale party. Plus, it was organized by a special profile named "Cedar Fest" not a specific student, which could've been set up using an email address created specifically for the purpose of making the profile, meaning it might be tough to trace (not saying it couldn't be done; just saying it won't be that easy).
With that said, I think the police WILL be monitoring facebook for any pictures, etc. that go up which can later be used as evidence. They'd be stupid not to.

They already had the attendee list printed yesterday. So even if you were not there but accepted the invite on facebook, you "could" be questioned.

This discussion completely devolved when people woke up. So many of the last eight pages of responses just add to the embarassment of what happened at Cedar Village and how the general MSU student is viewed.
