So Cedar Fest is making a comeback this year... riots?

a cedarfest event has been created on facebook with almost 4,000 confirming guests. Login | Facebook

however, it is planned on the first day of the final four (april 5th). are we gonna see riots? any of you old folks wanna enlighten me about the cedarfest tradition?

yeah...but it won't work because the video cameras, cellphones and photographers will catch everyone who does anything remotely amusing, the cops in riot gear and horses will be staged well in advance of any activity...sorry you'd have to be a fool to participate in a riot or large party in East Lansing anymore. It's just the way it is.

i don't think people actually "participate" in riots. it just kinda happens when you get drunk people together.

Don't understand why anyone would want to riot. It just gives MSU a terrible image. The Detroit media would run wild with it.

It's not going to happen. But it will be funny watching people who think it will. And having been at the real riots back in the day, it's not really somewhere you want to be. It's not a joke.

what i meant was that when you get hundreds of drunks outside together, even if they have no intention of rioting, a mob mentality can cause them to go nuts even if nobody intended to do so.

I'm not. Last time people ended up having their pictures run day and night on the local cable channel for months on end. You think it won't happen again...? Not worth getting kicked out of school for. The cops know exactly how to get ready for these things now. It's a different world.

I'm not sure what is worse - people making excuses for riots "accidentally" happening or the ELPD for essentially egging riots on by amassing for every big event and turning the city into a police state.

believe it or not East lLansing use to be fun with lots of people drinking at big parties. The biggest parties you can imagine at multiple houses on the same street. Not what is called a party these days.

I will be there.

It might be fine...just a gigantic party. DTN security will have their hands full.

if the cops won't let you throw a simple house party

you have to throw one that they can't stop

Sounds simple in theory, but execution is a whole new ball game.
