I was watching a rerun of Law & Order: SVU and the perp had gone to Michigan State.
They called MSU to find out his medical history. I'm guessing Elliot called Olin.
He mentioned Michigan State later in the show as well, when they were talking about the guy.

I don't know about Hollywood, but you'll see a MSU shirt around Exeter, Devon these days as I finally managed to find one

New cartoon movie, "Coraline."
I went and saw the Despereaux movie with my son and they had a preview for the movie Coraline. In it, the father is wearing a MSU sweatshirt. Thought that was kind of cool, especially for a cartoon movie.
Edit: Just saw this:
" Coraline is a brand new animated feature film produced by College of Arts and Letters alumnus Bill Mechanic ('73). Arts and Letters, in cooperation with MSU Athletics, is proud to be able to hold this event on Sunday, February 1st prior to the film’s official release date."

I could be completely out of my gourd on this one, but I swear I remember one of the kids from The Blair Witch Project having a backpack with an MSU logo on it. I can't find anything anywhere to confirm or deny this, but I thought I remember seeing this the one time I watched it.

in the movie "Groove" the main character, while rolling on MDMA, says to a girl:
"i'm from back east, East Lansing, and points to his hand"

My favorite MSU mention of all time....
In "The Replacements" Danny Bateman is introduced as such:
Quote:
|
"Linebacker, #56. SWAT team officer. Awarded the Purple Heart for losing a kidney during the Gulf War. A walk-on at Michigan State before he gave up football to sneak back into the service for one more tour of duty."

In Supernatural season 4 episode 13 aired January 29, 2009 the boys infiltrate an Indiana high school they briefly attended in their childhoods to find a killer ghost. During a flashback scene, a bully knocks the books out of the hands of Sam's only friend, who then remarks that he just wants to make it through the next three years and then he's off to Michigan State.

ok this is pretty buzzare. ( don't take my man card for this one either)
one episode of Lizzy McGuire, there was a new kid in town. they asked him where he was from and he said: " I'm from East Lansing, Michigan...Go blue!"
I feel like some of the writers on this show were from Michigan and just decided to make a lame inside joke

One of the guys on the last season of Big Brother wore MSU shirts all the time. I bet he had one on in at least 80% of the episodes. I forget his name though.

I think it's referenced in "Gran Torino". Since the movie is set in Michigan, Clint Eastwood's granddaughter says she's "going to State next year".

From the freep about Coraline
Early in the process of making the animated film, he was asked to approve the look his creative team had settled on for various characters in the film about a little girl who conjures a bizarre fantasy world after moving from Michigan to Oregon.
Mechanic, a proud alum of Michigan State University, immediately spotted a problem -- a big one: The sweater the team had designed for Coraline's father sported a big maize-and-blue University of Michigan logo.
"I said, 'You can't do that in a movie I'm producing,' " says Mechanic, who grew up in the Detroit area and received an English degree from MSU in 1973.
In computer animation, a few keystrokes would have solved the sweater problem. Not so with a stop-motion animation movie like "Coraline," where tiny models are moved up to 24 times for a single second of screen time.
Still, Mechanic, an executive at Disney and head of 20th Century Fox through much of the 1990s, prevailed.
"I think everyone thought I was kidding. Fixing it is pretty expensive and cumbersome because someone has to literally knit a miniature MSU sweatshirt using a magnifying glass. Ultimately, the ' MSU' is only about a half-inch tall."
Good to see a proud Spartan taking on the
He also add a vew other michigan touches such as the Detroit Zoo.

People are throwing around the word Alumni on this thread. Alumni means you graduated not attended two years then left for Hollywood or took a correspondance class.

I know Mack 10 wore a State hat in a video, and in an episode of 6 Feet Under, the black gay (I know I know Racewar / Sexualitywar) was watching a State b-ball game.

Not exactly "Hollywood" but some terrible low-budget horror films have been filmed at MSU. One was called "Invitation" I think. I only know this because I met a student who was in it, this was a few years ago. That director has done a couple others at MSU I guess.

I caught an episode of Walker, Texas Ranger once (come on, it's got some comedic value) and there was a kid in the show that Walker was mentoring and keeping out of gang life. At the end they show the kid graduating high school and although I was half paying attention, I swear they announced "so and so will be attending Michigan State University on scholarship." I wish I had had a DVR to double check, but I swear I heard it.

In the movie Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story, Stephen Root's character "Gordon" wears sweats, shorts and t-shirts in what appears to me to be college colors.
He wearing State colors in one scene:
