I think it depends on the kind of stereotypes that are being thrown around. White people liking Apple products is funny - no harm done. But a lot of the stereotypes being thrown at black people on here are very negative and very ignorant (black people don't get divorced because they just leave their baby-mommas????). Not exactly the same kind of joke there.

oh i agree. that comment was way out of line. but looking at the thread, the objections were raised before the baby momma comment was dropped. and i guess i don't see the harm in saying that black people enjoy hi-c orange and friend chicken.

Here you go, gHost.
Saying that black people don't go camping is funny...even the grape drink thing was kind of funny, because that skit that Dave Chappell did was hilarious... But yeah, this is on a different level entirely.

At first I thought it was just dumb (with some funny parts) b/c it was incorrect: black people don't like traveling, dogs, recycling, living by water?
Then after looking at it again, I think the underlying motive of the blog is to (in no particular order): 1) be funny, 2) negatively stereotype black people (maybe other minorities) in a subtle way, 3) make fun of liberal, east coast white people.

Not reading the whole thread, but if you think "stuff white people like" has anything to do with black people, or any race other than "caucasian" then you are mistaken.
It is a blog written by white people who are basically describing themselves. Oh and it's about the yuppies living in LA...

i don't need to read the thread to get that some one saw the "white people like divorce" and decided to write something along the lines of "oh yeah! well, black people like fried chicken and watermelon" or something just as racist.
My point is that black people didn't write that so there is absolutely no reason to get upset and try to disparage another race out of so called retaliation. Especially being that it's with poor taste and devoid of humor.
I'm sure if I read the whole thread I'd just see regurgitated quotes from the Chappelle Show.

i really don't think anyone was trying to retaliate or anything at first. someone just playfully suggested an alternative list for black people. it wasn't really mean spirited or any more "offensive" than the white list.
then came a comment of "white people like divorce. black people just leave their baby mommas" which i agree was completely out of line. i don't know why you would say something like that, but i don't think it was retaliatory.

I wrote this in response to the deleted thread "STUFF BLACK PEOPLE LIKE" just after it was deleted, because honestly it is bothering me:
Quote:
Once again, that website is written by WHITE PEOPLE in southern california and canada. And it attacks a specific type of "white person" mostly the yuppie like myself and most of the transported "Californians", a group who the authors are a part.
The need to retaliate is based on your own racist needs, because you should be retaliating not against BLACK PEOPLE but against your own kind. Why you chose black people to post a thread on and attack speaks volumes of your own bigotry as if there is a supposed competition or culture of white v. black.
Suppose the authors of that website were asian or latino, why not "attack" them to prove your point. Why is it your natural assumption that a black person has anything to do with the site or that a creating a thread based on black hatred somehow, at best, evens the score or, at worst, points out some sort of ironic double standard.
To further my point, the website is attacking a certain type of upwardly mobile individual who seems to value things like foreign movies, books, and independent music; the type of individual who tends to laugh at jabs like this rather then feel insecure and vengeful. I find it hard to believe that those getting up set at it are really the type of individual describe on the website. I think you are taking offense to the fact that anyone would dare criticize your race, even if the author is part of said race.
The website was made to be humorous not nasty, although it does at times seem to cut deep, but like I said the type of individual it is mocking is the type that doesn't get offended easily, probably because they have enough money to help console their bruised ego. The site does not take cheap shots at easy targets.
For example, it doesn't say that white people like NASCAR, country music, beating their wives, alcohol, hating minorities, being serial killers, or taking advantage of third world countries; all cheap shots that could easily be used to incite harm and hatred. In fact it does the exact opposite by highlighting how a specific group of white people enjoy petty individuality and self discovery based on cultural sensitivity.
So basically what I am saying is that a thread or a counter website based on the "principle" that jabs at white people sets a double standard just shows your bigotry. Unless it was made by actual african americans who say thing like:
STUFF BLACK PEOPLE LIKE #44 W.E.B. DuBois
But I truly doubt that your "principled" thread or website would contain actual humor and good natured jabs. Instead focusing on those easy hurtful comments that SWPL didn't go for such as fried chicken, watermelon, and an occasional drug or child abandonment comment. But maybe I'm way out of my element and you get it and wouldn't sink to these racist depths. Or maybe it's ok now since Dave Chappelle said so.

look, any white person who got genuinely offended by the SWPL post and needed to lash out as a result, seriously needs to check themselves.
but thinking about stuff that black people like doesn't make you a racist. there's a difference between attempting to disparage a race of people and having some good natured fun with harmless generalizations going the other way; and then dropping a "black people leave their baby mommas" line. The guy who posted that is incredibly out of line. observing that black people enjoy hi-c drink and menthol cigarettes doesn't belong in the same category as the baby mommas comment.

You're right, responding to a page about how dumb white people are for raising children and then getting divorced is WAY out of line. And bringing up something that people I grew up with actually SAID and DID is just plain crazy.

Stuff White People Like
This is one of the funniest websites I've seen in a long time.
Stuff White People Like
There's so many classics but I think my favorite would have to be...
#65 Co-Ed Sports
February 14, 2008 by clander
White people love being outside, but often during the week they don’t have time for marathons or ten mile bike rides. The answer is to play co-ed sports. This provides white people with a valuable opportunity to make friends with other white people and maybe even find a few dates.
Many white people play in their first co-ed league in college. It is considered good form to talk about how you played in one of these leagues where the best player on your team was a girl. This will make everyone feel better and remind them of the benefits of supporting women’s athletics.
As white people move into careers, the co-ed leagues become important tools for bonding with co-workers and making valuable career connections. Popular co-ed sports include kickball, softball, flag football and soccer. Although kickball used to be kind of cool, it’s sort of played out. So unless it’s a work league, it’s not really worth joining a league anymore.
On the surface, these events seem like friendly contests with everyone having a laugh. But these events are lurking with danger, and within them exists the possibility to ruin your reputation and hard earned status with white people.
If you are a poor athlete, rest easy. Co-ed sports were made for you!
But if you are reasonably skilled in sports, you have to be extremely careful how you approach your co-ed matches. If you try TOO hard (bowling over a female catcher, throwing a kickball EXTRA hard at someone) you come off as an aggressive, crazy maniac. On the other hand, if you don’t try at all you come off as a jerk who thinks they are above the game. The only solution is to approach the game like a point-shaving basketball player - play hard enough to be convincing, but not hard enough to win.
If you follow these rules, you will find yourself invited to the mandatory post-game drinks at a local bar where you will be photographed many times.
Any other favorites, or ones you think should be included?
