They aren't new...but they make fabulous ball markers on the golf course.

It is really pretty simple ... If they really wanted to make people use the dollar coin, all they have to do is stop making the paper dollar (and even more so ... stop making them and start taking the existing ones out of circulation)
The problem comes from retrofitting vending machines and other self-service machines that except cash...its (most likely) expensive and would take a lot of time to convert most machines. I'm no expert on vending machines but it seems like this would be a problematic step in eliminating $1 notes. Its much more difficult deal with than when they change the notes, because that's usually just a software upgrade to the machine.

It is all going to be "tap and go" soon enough. Then they will shrink the cards so you can put it in a ring, keychain, etc.

If a dollar coin must be circulated, I say bring back the old "silver dollars" that we had when I was a kid. They were big enough to distinguish them from other coins, and they held up well.

Can I still get these somewhere - other thn a coin collector?

eBay for just a little over face. When I worked at Kmart in high school, a person paid for their purchase with 10 of them. I bought them from my register, so I have several.

I went to Eisenhower High School and when we held quiz bowl tournaments that involved a coin flip, we always flipped an Eisenhower dollar.

Again, if it is good for the gov't to eliminate the paper dollars and replace them with a longer lasting dollar coin ... stop making the paper dollar.

If you do that, all the of the vending machines and self-service machines will very quickly replace their current machines with ones that take the new dollar coins.

DIABETES
I did it! 105 degree and 105 miles in Death Valley in 1 day. But it's nothing compared to what my wife and daughter do daily dealing with Type 1 diabetes.

I'm riding to raise awareness, to raise $$, but, at the end of the day, I'm riding so some day someone can say to my daughter...

"Ellie, when we were kids, what was it you had again?"

...and so I ride.
