tOffical "I've given up on the Tigers for the 2008 season" thread.
Not saying they won't make the playoffs and I'm not saying they will either. Just giving people here a place to make their official declaration when they decide the season is over as far as being anything meaningful. Whether it be today or 140 games from now.

I gave up on them about 10 years ago. Does that count?

Nah, I think they can go 95-55 the rest of the way and make the playoffs. They've shown how they could reach 30 games over .500.

Didn't you say that the Tigers needed to be 3-3 on this roadtrip? Well, they can reach that goal tomorrow.

By the way, looks like Granderson is playing in West Michigan tomorrow night and Toledo on Tuesday night. Looking at a Wednesday return.
Polanco's back doesn't look good and Sheffield wants team doctors to look at his shoulder (from a Detroit News article)

yep, 3-3 was my goal. I am hoping they can get there. Then pick a game or two up at home this week. 4-2 or 5-1. be a good couple weeks for the Tigers if they could do that

They need to get their pitching in order. Hopefully somebody is able to correct some of the mechanical deficiencies in these pitchers soon.

Correct what? Except for Verlander they are all pitching at about their career averages. It wasn't a good staff preseason, its not a good staff now and won't be a good staff in the future. I know you don't see that though, you are pretty delusional when it comes to the Tiggers.

Rogers 08 ERA: 6.33
Career: 4.21
Robertson 08: 7.02
Career: 4.65
Verlander 08: 7.03
career: 3.93
so that's 3/5ths of the rotation at least 2 runs above their career averages. So what the hell are you talking about?

Ari Gold is a moron.
This staff is almost the same staff that led the majors in ERA in 2006.
All they need to do is figure out how to get back to that:
Justin Verlander - 3.63
Kenny Rogers - 3.84
Nate Robertson - 3.84
Jeremy Bonderman - 4.08
Dontrelle Willis - (3.87+0.25 AL Adjustment) - 4.12

I will wait a few more weeks to get a satisfactory read on this team. In spurts, they have shown that they can be very good.
The biggest problem I've seen is their tendency to follow up a good event with a bad one. Today, for example, they got a pair of runs to take a 2-1 lead, then promptly gave four right back (when it could have been just one).

Should Cleveland also give up on their season? They're 7-12. How about the 7-11 Los Angeles Dodgers or the 8-10 Phillies?
If we are still having this conversation in a month then I might hit the panic button. They are showing too many signs of life for me to bail just yet.

I still think they can be good, they just have to work on getting the clutch hit. How many times the last few games have they stranded the bases loaded??
Its obvious other teams pitchers are being very careful with this lineup (For example Toronto has walked 15 Tigers this series) but the Tigers are not taking advantage of it. In fact, when Miggy doubled Maggs in yesterday, that was the first time any ONE of those 15 walks scored....
Its a very fine line and they are just not getting the clutch hit at the right time.
Dont know where to check this, but I would bet the Tigers are at the top in the majors in runners stranded on base and in scoring position.
