Couple things: did search function thing...nothing, 2nd post ever...I need answers from professionals that have been dodging ELPD every Saturday during football season since Munn went dry.
Any idea how a group of us can get some of our own beverages into the infield?
2 ways I have heard of....soak it in fruit and melted ice/vodka. Anyone else have a suggestion?
get a 2 liter bottle of coke/sprite/whatever your mixer is.
put a small hole in the bottom of it, let some drain out. Funnel in booze. with a lighter, melt hole closed again...my dad went to the derby for 15 straight years with is friends, they would hit up 5 different tracks in 4 nights, this is how they would get the booze into the derby

Honestly, it's pretty tough now. You are only allowed to bring in food now in 18" X 18" clear plastic bags and they limit it to 2 per person. You could probably get away with some fruit but they are very strict. There are a ton of cops and guards at the gate going under the tunnel into the infield and they search everyone pretty tightly. I think they used to allow more and you could get it in with ziplock bags, but they are cracking down.
I go every year and just plan on paying the $9 a pop for the mint juleps...it's once a year and is pretty much no worse than a Tigers game anymore.'
Good luck! You are definitely in for a great time!
A guy i knew use to use a chaise lounge chair, he'd sneak a whole case of beer in inside of the chair. Things have really changed since 9/11, they won't let you bring a lot in. you might want to go to an official website to see what they allow in and go from there. Otherwise just drink before you go in the gate.
Churchill has gotten tougher year in and year out. They are doing a much harder
pat down on people. 2 years ago my friends tried the ziploc bag thing and they
even caught those. Now it seems like it isnt even worth the effort...just pay for
the overpriced beer and it ends out to be the same with the booze that they will
take from you.

It has become tough sneaking in booze for the Derby. They do a pretty thourough search on you as you enter. For years, my friends and I would pour booze in ziplocks bags (maybe sure to double bag it) and duct tape it to you just above your beltline. Wear some lose fitting clothes over it. Make sure to spread it around to have everybody sneak some in. Chances are that a few in your group my get busted, but not everybody.
If you don't sneak any in or get busted, the beers there aren't too badly priced for the event and they have a ton of beer stands spread out. Better than most sporting events.
I know some guys that dressed up as plumbers (jumpsuit uniforms) and went into Churchill Downs the week before the derby. They had the booze stashed in their work boxes, dug a long trench and buried the goods in the trench. On derby day...you know the rest of the story.
CadaverBlender is back. Fresh off a trip to the infield for Kentucky Derby 134 we’ve got the best way to ensure all your money goes towards exactas and trifectas and not towards $6 beer and $9 Mint Juleps (though one Julep for the souvenir glass might be worth it). I know you’ve come to expect a list, but really there is only one surefire way to sneak booze into Churchill Downs and thats with the booze sandwich. Click for more including pictures.
Making the booze sandwich is quite easy. Once the bread is loaded wrap it in a little saran wrap and there you have it, your booze sandwich.
Before heading to the track, load your clear plastic bag with some other food: chips, fruit, and cookies and now you have a complete meal.

This year was 100 times easier to sneak in booze in comparison to prior years. The gate people didnt even care. This was opposed to the last 5 years where they searched you and your belongings like a TSA employee during the middle of an orange alert at Detroit Metro Airport.

Wow, the sandwich idea is slick. We actually just ended up placing ziplocks full of bourbon and vodka down our shorts and walked right in. 12 of us got in without any problem. And not that any Mint Julip needs more Bourbon but it really added to the craziness. Overall a great time. Thanks for everyone's advice and if I ever go back I am going to try this sandwich route.
