Football Hoyer

I took several liberties last season at calling out Hoyer during several of his poor performances last year. As far as I'm concerned this year is a clean slate.

Did anyone go to the Spring game? How did he look? I feel like so much for this year rides on his ability to improve.

Also, the video I watched seemed to jokey and loose. I hope Dantonnio hasn't got soft. I feel like he needs to consistenly 'beat' toughness into this team. That is all.

i was at the spring game. i was not impressed with any quarterback. I wish him (us) well, but i'm still pissed at 5 picks in the bowl game.

Oh, thank God you've given him a clean slate. I've been worried all winter if steveschneider would give Hoyer a clean slate at the beginning of the year.

You think you were worried, imagine how Hoyer must have felt!

How could I be so selfish in a situation like this? I forgot all about Hoyer's feelings. Shame on me.

Players must laugh their asses off when they read stuff like this:

I'd have liked to have heard that one of the freshman were making a lot of noise this spring, instead, they're both deadlocked for backup job. There can be series where Hoyer gets his bell rung, or just gets frustrated or whatever, I'd really like to see one of them showing so much talent that the experienced guy has to play his best. I just hope there is a real talent between Cousins and Foles.

I know this has been discussed ad-nauseum, but the top numbers are Brian Hoyer last season, the bottom numbers are Drew Stanton the year before.
And 4 of Hoyers 11 picks came in the final game. The kid had a great year. Too many of you are pointing at a bad game in the last game you saw him and evaluating his entire season based solely on that. Hell, Hoyers numbers are even comparable to Stanton's magnificent 2005 season.

236 354 3077 66.7 8.69 75 22 12 23 153.41

Cut the kid some damn slack. He doesnt need a clean slate, in fact if you cleaned his slate, it would be diminishing the accomplishments he has already attained as a solid BT QB.

Wow thats pretty eye opening...I think Hoyer could have another good year as long as someone new steps up at wideout, ala DT last season

Sorry, but you can't compare the two like that. Two completely different offenses, two completely different coaches. Hoyer's ability to run is almost non-existant. If you ask any coach who they would rather have, most would pick Stanton.

Well, Stanton did have a lot of experienced receivers to work with in his senior season, and performed poorly. And those poor numbers came in an offense that likes to pass.

Hoyer had no returning starters at WR to work with. He had Devin Thomas, but Thomas was not expected to be so good. And this was supposed to be a running offense, and he had much better numbers.

PLUS, Stanton never led MSU to a bowl.

Not to knock stanton, but Hoyer did what Stanton didn't: Take the team to a bowl game. Stanton's running was great and all, but it got him hurt and took him out of situations where we needed him. I'd take a healthy Stanton over just about anyone, but Stanton was rarely healthy.

He will, I just don't understand the Hoyer-haters and their ilk on this board. Hoyer, outside of that bowl game had a fantastic season with only 1 good receiver. He'll have a fantastic upcoming season ala Bill Burke his senior year.

bottom line: how many games do we win last year if Hoyer isn't there?

Not many.

Doesn't matter. He isn't a flashy enough quarterback for the masses. Wins are irrelevant.

This board would've had a field day with Dan Enos back in 1990. Of course the win over #1 Michigan may have bought him a day or two reprieve, but I'm sure many would've taken "several liberties" at "calling him out".

Hoyer just needs to play consistently and this team will have a good shot at 8-9 wins. He doesn't need to be Superman.

And how many do we win if Stanton isn't the QB during his playing days? Hoyer is the #1 QB at MSU, but I don't think he is going to go too early in the NFL draft, and I don't think he's going to get much hype in the media. He is a decent QB, but that is about it.
