Newspaper story MLive - Nichol's next move to be closely watched on many fronts

Quote:
EAST LANSING -- It would be intriguing to walk the next mile in Keith Nichol's cleats, to say the least. That's not to suggest the next leg of the former Lowell High School four-star recruit coveted by Michigan State and...

Cant decide how I feel about him, I think he was a tad overrated coming out of high school, but we could use im after this year, because who knows with Foles and Cousins. Becuase as good as Cousins was at HC, Nichol was a lot better at Lowell.

The kid left the in-state team once (well, renegged on his verbal) to go to not so close Oklahoma so why is everyone putting him back close to home??? Actually It wouldn't surprise me a bit to see him at Alabama (as one poster jokingly suggested). The kid is too good for MAC schools and I don't see him playing in the Big Ten.

I have an question here: What if he stays home and doesn't enroll in any school next year? I image he would still be considered a red-shirt sophomore in '09 but could he play. The reason this crossed my mind is he could then wait and see how U-M fares does and how their offense is realy run without a burner like Pat White at QB.

I'm pretty sure I heard he wouldn't mind staying closer to home.

Then again, what he says and does seem to be two different things.

Yes but we got Bubba Smith for giving him up to Bear Bryant who couldn't take Smith because he was black. I think it was fair trade!

I think MSU is just fine in their QB situation for the next few years. I like what I have seen of Maxwell and I think either Cousins or Foles will give MSU solid production under center.

You have 5 years to play 4 (not counting those wacky and rare 6th years). Your five year clock starts your first year and doesn't stop. If you take a year off, you don't get to postpone your eligibility. Nichols last year of eligibility would be the 2011 season, no matter how many seasons he is/isn't in school.

Who's to say that Midland's Andrew Maxwell, who'll be a freshman in '09, won't be the second coming of Joe Namath, who ended up at Alabama after admissions issues stood in the way of him becoming a Spartan.

Just for clarification sake, it wasn't bubba who was reccommended to come up North by Bear Bryant. It was an Africian American in Alabama who wanted to play there but going to Alabama at that time was easier said than done. So Joe Willy, who couldn't get into state based on Big 10 academics was steered to the academically friendly Tide in the SEC by Duffy and the player in Alabama was steered to State by the Bear where blacks had been playing for years. I'll work on that players name......

Duffy & Bryant used to steer kids they couldn't take for whatever reason, to each other. MSU was one of the first schools to put blacks on the field, and a lot of good players the folks at 'Bama wouldn't play, ended up with Duffy.

that article was bad. There is no way Nichol could play at CMU. LeFevour is firmly the QB there for as long as he stays. Not sure if he has 1 or 2 more seasons.

Keith should consider GVSU. He would be a total bad ass there and might win a ring or 3 with the Lakers... the best football program in Michigan.

Joe Namoth's HS TE ended up at State. Long Polish/hard to pronounce last name.

Maybe we can get that same type of trade thing going with Nick Saban, the current 'Bama coach.

Tom Kryzmenski (or something like that). Was a phys ed teacher and coached running backs and receivers at Warren Cousino for awhile.

Story was Namath got him a tryout with the Jets. Jets liked him but was too small for the pro game. They had him eat everything in sight during training camp in attempt to bulk him up. He was the last player cut that year.

Oh yah. I'm sure $$$$$$$$$aban spends a lot of time thinking how to benefit the MSU football program. He didn't think that much about it while he was HERE -- he preferred to spend his time trolling for better jobs rather than coaching/recruiting -- so why would he care about it now??

The first time $$$$$$aban sent a player who was anything more than a last-string walk-on level player to MSU, the Bama fans would lynch him. And rightly so, his job is to improve the Alabama program, not spend time worrying about the MSU program.

Vice-versa goes for . $$$$$$$aban is getting paid $8 million a year. Let him do his own recruiting.

Yeah I just read this too. You'd never see anything like that in today's game. Colleges are too busy trying to outrecuit each other to steer kids for each other.
