That said, yeah, $25 aboard Michigan Flyer into Lansing. Never did the bus thing, but it sounds like a helluva bargain.

Unfortunately for me, to fly from Philly to Lansing is about $411 round trip, so about $200 each way, but flying from Detroit, nonstop, is just about $225 round trip.
To Newark, on the other hand, a little bit further from my house, us $311 round trip, but stops in Detroit.
Cheaper going to / from either Flint or Detroit via. either NWA, SWX or USAIR.
are there any cabs that MSU Students get for discount?

Lansing's airport, Capital City, code LAN., is on the NW edge of town, situated to serve Lansing, and cities to the north and west.
That is the whole problem. From my house in Okemos to LAN is at best a 23 minute drive.
I can drive to Flint Bishop in about 55 minutes.
I can drive to DTW in under 2 hours, depending on time of day and traffic.
If you can get a great fare to LAN instead of DTW, fine, take it.
Otherwise, take your best fare to DTW and take the Michigan Flyer to its stop at the Marriott. If you live near the Marriott, wheel your luggage home. If not, have the Michigan Flyer arrange for a cab for you to be ready to take you to your home -- sharing with others.
Flying into LAN and then cabbing it to somewhere near MSU does not win over flying to DTW and taking Michigan Flyer to EL. Look at the timetables and the cost.

My one friend who lives in Long Island always flies through metro and takes the Michigan Flyer (that is if I don't pick him up).
My other friend from Vegas has flown through Grand Rapids, Lansing, and Metro. I don't really know why? But there are no buses from Grand Rapids or Lansing.
Flint is just random, and Metro is way more worth it.

I fly Northwest and the last 3 times I flew (as recent as last Mon-Thurs), I have found that flying from LAN to DTW and then catching the SAME exact flights from DTW to my destination (last week was TYS) was actually cheaper than flying out of DTW itself.

Flint has cheap airfares, only reason why I mentioned it..
However, checking today, NWA & US Air are cheap nonstop from DTW to Philly
