MSU Transportation Question(s)
Hey Guys,
I will be a frosh this upcoming fall at State... but I, well myself & my mom have a question:
Is there a bus that takes you to and from Michigan State to Detroit Airport? If so, how much is it? and do they have a website?
Is there a bus that takes you to and from MSU to FLINT airport? again, how much is it? Website?
Thanks!!!

Not Flint.
But Detroit, yeah.

Great service. 25 dollars each way if you're alone.

Michigan Flyer is a labor of love by a guy who is dedicated to providing a much needed service. Everyone should patronize Michigan Flyer when it makes sense for their itineraries.
Why is the Flint airport on your radar? Cheaper fares? You will end up flying to DTW and then waiting for a flight to Flint. Sorry there is no shuttle from Flint to LAN, but it wouldn't make sense anyhow. Michigan Flyer stops at the Marriott in East Lansing. On the way into EL, they ask who needs a taxi where, and they arrange it on the way.
I really can't say enough good things about Michigan Flyer. Use 'em and support 'em.

FYI for the original poster... the Marriott (Michigan Flyer's last stop) is only a block away from campus (north of the MSU Union).
Oh, and I'm not sure they do that with the taxis anymore. Now they just have a bunch of Big Daddy's, Shaggin Wagon's, and Spartan Cabs show up at the Marriott every time the MI Flyer comes into town.

Greyhound can probably get you where you need to go (not nearly as nice as Michigan Flyer), but you'll be able to get to Flint (may be through another big city though, so not as quick). The train may help also (Amtrack).

How recent is your information, and what evidence or experience do you cite?
I used Michigan Flyer to the EL Marriott in March. The owner surveyed the folks on the bus and figured out who could share cabs to what locations. I was the only Okemos destination. There were cabs for everyone, wherever they were headed. It was not a random catch it if you can deal.
Cite specifics. As of March 10th, what you say is false. Michgian Flyer arranges the cabs; it's not random cab lines. HUGE difference.

QFT on the Michigan Flyer. Managed to make it from my doorstep next to the Marriott to Urbana-Champaign for an all-day interview and back same-day, made that trip to and from Detroit eeeeeasy.

Wow, you sure get defensive about the MI Flyer.
Dude, I like it, and I take it every single time I go home or come back to MSU.
The last time I took it was March 9th, so you got there a day later... I'm pretty sure they didn't just change their policies or whatever. Sounds like you got lucky. I've taken the Michigan Flyer to East Lansing 4 times. Every time it was a random catch out of the cabs that showed up. In January of this year I had to wait in the freezing cold for about 20 minutes before a cab that I could take showed up.
Yes, I realize I just got unlucky that one time. And yes, I realize that MI Flyer calls the cabs and tells them to be there, but I never experienced this personalized service you talk about. When I rode the MI Flyer, the company called a bunch of cabs, they showed up, and then people (MI Flyer customers) dealt with the cab drivers.
I really have no idea why you get so defensive about it. As I said, I think it is great service and certainly recommend it. I was never asked by any MI Flyer employees (or the owner) if I needed a taxi though (nor do I expect them to).

The owner of Michigan Flyer tries very hard to arrange cabs that will show up on time and take people where they need to go. Lansing has 2 cab companies that are the same company -- Yellow Cab and Spartan Cab -- and then the Go Daddy and others.
You simply cannot trust Lansing cabs. They say they will be there in, say, 15 minutes, and they may be there in 45. Over the last several years I've had a dozen or so times when the dispatcher or the cabbie just plain lied as to when they'd pick me up.
All I'm saying is the operator of Michigan Flyer tries to sync with cabs who will show up when they promise. He can't control how they behave, but he does try.
And, as pointed out, if you need to be dropped at MSU's campus, you are one block away at the Marriott.
And by the way: the cab fare from my house in Okemos to Capital City Airport (LAN) is about $50. The fare from the Marriott to DTW is $25 on Michigan Flyer.

Absolutely.
Sometimes they just don't even show up and then when you call them back they say they never got your call or "forgot" to put it in their system. They get particularly good at that on Friday and Saturday nights.

Wow, you are getting seriously ripped off. Should only cost 22 no more than 30 and thats HIGH. I'd go with another service next time.

Just wondering, any reason why you're not flying into LAN? Usually the fares to LAN aren't that awful (I fly Delta), and you really can't beat being just a short drive from campus.
That said, yeah, $25 aboard Michigan Flyer into Lansing. Never did the bus thing, but it sounds like a helluva bargain.

Hey, it looks like I might be making the bus trip from Detroit to Lansing, too.
Anybody know what Michigan Flyer's luggage limits are? I know with the airlines its two checked and one carry-on - is the the same for the busline?

My buddy from Boston always flew right into and out of the Lansing airport. It was cheaper for him than flying into Detroit, and saved us from having to pick him up!

Same as airlines.
Make sure not to stop at their Lansing stop (there IS one), but at the East Lansing one at the Marriott.
