Yeah, at least when I lived in Japan, I could actually understand what they were saying about us, and those saying usually didn't realize it. My gf actually thought it was hilarious when I would respond to their comments in Japanese. The look on their faces was usually either that of embarassment or one of "I hope the gaijin doesn't beat my azz". Also, used to crack up when someone would make a comment saying she must like really big ones to be dating a gaijin, to which I would usually comment to them in Japanese slang that actually I was hung like a peanut. Amazing some of the things people would say right in front of you thinking you wouldn't understand what they were saying.

Adam and Eve were white so God really didn't plan to have brown folk as part of the human race, which makes this type of Tom-foolery all the more disgusting.

some of Detroit city counsel might have a problem with interracial dating

Have we really come anywhere in race relations? These women were about 28-35...so it's not like they were from the Brown V. Board of Education days. They've been raised in a society that encourages inclusion and tolerance of differences.
I was shocked. As I left, I looked directly at them and towards them. One of them got pissed, one of them buried her head in shame.
So, tRCMB...what's the deal? Do we talk a good game but don't follow through with it?
Does anyone here...honestly...have a problem with two people of different "races" and sexes having dinner together?

They were probably chubbies too, people without lives of their own have to complain about the people that do.

One was. The other one wasn't but was not an attractive person.

I'm a minority. For all the whining minorities do, I think white people as a whole are more accepting and progressive than any other race, partly due to exposure, and industrialized society.
I think most parents from India would have more issues with their kid marrying a white American than a white girl's folks (even in the south) would have with me, from experience. They'd have a heart attack if their kid went for a black girl. Hell when I lived in the south, my best friend in HS had parents in the KKK, and they had no problems with me openly. Make a joke about Indians though, and they'll complain up a storm
Sounds like the women were venting their issues of being unattractive via her race as a scapegoat. If she was a hot blonde, they'd probably be whispering about all the men going for filthy sluts.
Don't get me wrong, I'm a very offensive person who loves stereotypes . They're there for a reason. But I don't treat people poorly or make decisions based on race.

im a northern white guy, just moved to charlotte, nc area from the D... and since september have been dating a black coworker... there only have been a couple occasions when we notice any wierd stares or comments... these mostly come from older white folks...we find it funny...in my mind racism is pure ignorance, but in many others, these stereotypes are reality... it just depends on teh person i spose.... for the most part charlotte is pretty progressive, young and at least seemingly open to interracial dating... ive seen quite a bit of it... whether its in public, in schools, etc... i think we were the only mixed couple at her church when we went for easter....but didnt notice any wierd comments or stares... it was a large baptist church, with only a few white people in attendece, but it was cool...her family is cool with it.. as is mine...i know the old people still hang on to stereotypes that existed in thier days and have transcended the years...whatcha gonna do...

There are some HOT African American girls out there. And, what's really cool, is that you can joke around about anything with them in a social setting...it's like there's no tension at all.

Race relations have come a long ways since Brown v. Board of Education, but they still have a long way to go. I only bring this up as an example because it tells a lot. Has anyone seen the polls in WVU? A huge contingent of voters there that didn't vote for Senator Obama said race played a factor in their decision. That's upsetting, but not surprising. It's pathetic that people would base their vote off of one's race in the year 2008.

Until you hang out with her family, and you're the only whitey there. That could be rather uncomfortable.
